🌟Closing the Chapter of 2023 with 36 Salutes to the Sun 🌟⁣

Cheers to a year of practice, growth and transformation with my wonderful community and friends at the Freies Institut Kaiserberg. ⁣
🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️🌟⁣

Today we rolled out our mats for one last time in 2023 to move and breathe together in unison. ⁣

As we moved through our sun salutations we were mindful of the words that took us through a year on the mat: ⁣

Gratitude 🙏🏻 ⁣
….for every breath, every stretch and every lesson this year has gifted us. ⁣

Peace ☮️ ⁣
Flowing through our weekly practice, the serenity of each movement washed away lingering tensions and left space for peace and tranquility in our lives. ⁣

Connections 🤝⁣
This year the energy on our mats bound us together. We felt the connection between breath and movement, between each yogi in the room. More importantly we gave ourselves time to connect with ourselves - paying attention, noticing our own body and breath as it moved through flow. ⁣

Family 🧘‍♂️🧘‍♀️⁣
United by a shared journey on the mat, we were strong in our collective energy and breath. ⁣

Happiness 😊⁣
This year we smiled through the challenges and relished the victories on the mat. ⁣

Health 🌿⁣
In 2023 we nourished our bodies and minds for one hour every Sunday morning. We embraced the vitality that yoga gifts us, cultivating good health as we flowed through the poses. ⁣

Forgiveness 🕊️⁣
In the rhythm of our breath, we found the grace to forgive - ourselves and others. ⁣

As we close this chapter, I really hope that the energy cultivated on our mats this year accompanies us into 2024. I look forward to seeing you rolling out your mat in January. 🎉🌟⁣

🌟September Connections🌟⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As the days grow shorter and the air crisper, it’s important to take a moment to embrace the beauty of connection . 💫⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🍂 In this season of change, let’s come together as a community and celebrate the power of human connection. 🧘‍♀️🧘🧘‍♂️⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Yoga is not just about strength and flexibility; it’s a practice that unites mind, body and heart. It’s about connecting with yourself and with others, fostering a sense of self as well as unity and togetherness with others. 🤝⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🌻 I find that September is not only a time for softening and self-connection, a time for meditation and deep breaths, but also a time for community and gratitude. ⁣A time to extend compassion and togetherness. 💛

🌈 Let your practice on the mat be a reminder of your connection to your breath, your body and inner self. Flow through your practice with intention and presence. Feel the ground beneath you and the energy flowing within. Be reminded that we are all connected, like threads in the vast tapestry of life. 🌏🌟

Come and connect with our community on Sunday morning at 11am at the Freies Institut Kaiserberg. I am looking forward to seeing you on the mat. 🤗💕⁣⁣

🧘‍♀️Yoga Breathing 🧘‍♂️⁣

Next week we will start back on the mat at the Freies Institut. 🤍

This morning I was reminded of a question a student asked about yoga breathing. She asked why I cue “inhale through the nose, exhale through the nose” in my flow classes. 🤍🤍⁣

I want to take a moment to explain why I only breathe through my nose during practice. 🌬️⁣

The breath is considered the force that connects the mind and body and I believe that the way we breathe during yoga practice plays a crucial role in enhancing our experience on the mat. 🧘‍♂️🧘‍♀️⁣

For me, breathing through the nose encourages mindfulness and brings the focus inward. The sensation of air moving in and out of the nostrils helps anchor my awareness to the present moment. ⁣🌟

However other reasons for breathing through the nose include:

Balanced Nervous System⁣
Nasal breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, responsible for “rest and digest” response. This induces a sense of calm and tranquility, reducing stress and anxiety. 🌿⁣

Optimal Oxygenation ⁣
Nasal breathing optimizes oxygen uptake in the body. The nose acts as a natural diffuser, ensuring that the inhaled air is properly humidified and enriched with nitric oxide. This helps improve stamina, endurance, and overall endurance on the mat. 💪⁣

Sound and Vibration ⁣
In Yoga we use a technique called Ujjayai breathing. Nasal breathing facilitates this technique, creating a gentle sound, that guides our movements and aids internal focus. It is the harmonious symphony between breath and movement. 🎶⁣

⁣Remember however, while breathing through the nose is encouraged, it’s essential to find a balance that works for you. If you find it challenging to breathe solely through the nose during a practice, don’t force it. 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️⁣

🌿 Embrace the Pause 🌿⁣

As a yoga teacher, I often find myself guiding my students through dynamic flows and challenging poses. Inspired by the power of movement and mindfulness on the mat, I tend to neglect the beauty and necessity of true rest in everyday life. 💕⁣

I find it easy to overlook the value of slowing down, taking a moment to breathe and reconnect. Although I’m aware that rest is not a luxury but rather an essential part of my wellness journey, I find it difficult to find the balance between effort and surrender. 🌞🌙⁣

On holiday, I allowed myself to prioritize true rest by doing the things that help recharge my batteries ⛰️☀️🥾🌳 🧘‍♀️ ☕️ The stress and anxiety melted away and I left Austria fully energized and inspired. 🌈

✨The challenge now is to preserve this awareness and continue to make rest a priority, both on and off the mat.✨

We cannot pour from an empty cup. So let’s honour the power of rest and make space for it in our lives. 💕

Embrace the Pause
And mind yourself.

Returning next Sunday🧘‍♀️ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Although the cast and brace are gone, I still cannot practise traditional yoga flow (as I’ve been taught and as I teach). Many poses that tend to make up a flow are all no-gos. These include (anything creating a right angle between lower arm, wrist and hand) down-dog, plank, table top, Chaturanga, crow and any sort of other arm balance. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
However, I’ve been given the opportunity to explore, deepen and work within the realm of twists, standing balances, backbends and a myriad of folds and bends.⁣ I have been practicing some lovely flows with some yin elements that I hope you enjoy too. 🤍⁣
⁣⁣
There has certainly been a bit of falling out of poses (in the most graceless ways) but I guess that comes with the insecurity of having broken a bone and the idea that “my body betrayed me once so I don’t fully trust it in this pose!”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I’m looking forward to sharing with you what I have learned next Sunday the 7the of May and on the following dates: 14.05, 21.05, 28.05 and the 18.06 for an adapted version of our Sunday Morning Vinyasa Flow. Classes start at 11am 🧘‍♀️🤍🌷⁣
