The Devil and The Tower

The Devil - This card usually denotes some type of oppression or depression. Sometimes it is self inflicted (such as a negative thought cycle). It can mean fear keeping us immobile. It can mean an unhealthy relationship (with another, with ourselves, with food or alcohol etc.). Often, it implies a bo***ge that we keep upon ourselves. Again, position in the spread does matter. For example, if it is in the “past” position, this could mean an old fear that is affecting us in the present depending on supporting cards. Ask yourself: “What am I suppressing? What am I obsessing about? What is causing oppression?”

The Tower - This one is rough in the sense that it means a shake up of the status quo. It can also, however, mean inspiration that strikes from out of the blue (although the inspiration can lead to a shake up of the status quo, so it depends on where you stand). If it falls in the "atmosphere around you" position, this can mean that things are about to get a bit chaotic. There can be realizations that shake the very foundation. Again, it all depends on where you stand. If you are unsupported and unstable at the top of the tower, then you had best hold on as it could be a bumpy ride. This card can also mean an awakening, or an evolution where the ego is tamed. Ask yourself: “Where do I stand? Is my footing secure enough to withstand shaky ground? Have I done all I can to prepare for the unexpected?”

What a reading can do for you
The types of readings I do are not simply concerned with predicting what's going to happen to you over the next few days or weeks. Although I can do this kind of reading, and I've always been reasonably successful at it, I don't think this is a particularly productive use of the Tarot.
Rather than trying to tell you what is going to happen to you, I think it's much more useful to tell you what's happening to you now. That is, to help highlight the aspects of your life you may not be fully aware of at the moment, such as what influences are acting on you, what conscious and subconscious control you are exerting on your life, and how these various factors may manifest in the future. I will put particular emphasis on what blocks you are currently experiencing (internally and externally), how you can act more effectively in your current situation, and what parts of your personality and life you are currently neglecting.
The Tarot is an excellent way of gaining a fresh perspective on your life, or on a specific situation. It can shed new light on old emotional problems, negative aspects of relationships, suggest parts of your life or personality you are neglecting, and help you to make more balanced, insightful decisions, going into the future. The Tarot is a superb analysis tool for getting a clear, detached view of what you are doing right now, and where you are heading.

Today's Tarot Card:Seven of Pentacles

The Seven of this suit is typically a paean to the humble laborer who is willing to show up every day and sweat in the sun for next season's bounty. The traditional concept is cultivation, with an attitude that slow and steady wins the race, with faith in nature's assistance. The protagonist of this card doesn't make excuses, isn't whimsical or moody, but is dedicated and sees the job through. Of course, it's no good to count your chickens before they hatch, but there's no question that the person who is vigilant over a project is more likely to get the desired result.

Someone who works with nature, cooperating with her ways, will waste less energy and time than the person who works against her. As a side meaning, we sometimes see this normally humble farmer in a moment of frenzy, betting the crop on a roll of the dice.

Tarot Card of Today

The Hanged Man

The Hanged Man is an unsettling, mysterious card, because it symbolizes the reversal of our life situations, all contradictions we face in ourselves and in life in general, and paradox in action. Although the Hanged Man seems restricted and helpless, he looks calm and relaxed. In this position the card represents the rational mind being turned off, acceptance of a new situation, a unique point of view, reflection and serenity. Deeply thoughtful, he seems to have reached a higher consciousness. By letting go and giving up, as painful as it may be, this symbolism suggests that we can overcome restrictions, find what we have been looking for, and ultimately become free, self-determined beings. In a negative setting the symbolism suggests manipulation, passivity, useless sacrifice, and apathy.
