New on vascular professional – Are there still limits to the treatment of insufficient veins with lasers?

Robert Vlachovský, MD, Ph.D., VASCUMED the Vein Clinic, Czech Republic, shares his experiences „Why a laser fibre radiating in 2 rings may improve quality of life outcomes compared with traditional single-ring fibre“

Results from a Czech study indicate that 1470nm laser treatment of saphenous vein reflux with both radial single-ring and 2ring fibres results in clinical improvement of symptoms and comparable occlusion rates. In the early postoperative period, 2ring laser radial fibre seems to remove the quality of life limitations associated with traditional single-ring radial fibre use.

First published in vascular professional magazine: Avoidance of nerve injury with EVLA in two steps with thin 2-ring radial fibers

The Japanese vascular surgeon Junichi Utoh from Kumamoto Vascular Clinic discovered with his team, that the risk of nerve injury increases significantly with the length of the treated vein – especially in the lower leg, where nerve tracts run close to the saphenous vein. As a result, he and his colleagues changed the ablation technique and found no nerve injury by the first report date six months later.

The article „Incidence of nerve injury after endovenous laser ablation of incompetent great saphenous veins” by Junichi Utoh, MD, PhD, et al has been published for the first time in the 2nd issue of vascular professional, a digital journal for phlebologists and vascular surgeons.
