Just on time for the weekend!

Here are 3 tips for you on how you can improve your relationships:

No 1 &
Take responsibility for your feelings, needs and actions

No 2
Become aware of how you relate to yourself & others.
Whenever judgement comes up, try to shift your focus to curiosity - what is there to learn about yourself or the other person?

No 3
Try out small random acts of kindness - it's fun!
E.g. paying the coffee for the next person in a coffee shop or smile at someone for no reason.

Have a great weekend!

Relationships is the third factor of the PERMA model of well-being.

Relationships are fundamental to well-being, and here’s why:

"If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at ..."
Franklin D. Roosevelt

And we would argue that it really starts with ourselves.

*What is your relationship with yourself?
*How do you talk to yourself?
*How do you care for yourself?
*Do you take responsibility for yourself?

When we work on a healthy relationship with ourselves, we can relate to others in a more authentic way.
We are not trying to manipulate others to fulfill our needs, validate our worth or become like them.

"It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is."
Hermann Hesse

Engagement and flow occurs when we use our SKILLS and STRENGTHS to meet a challenge.

When we are engaged, we focus our attention on a task and are fully committed to it AND we do it for its own sake.

What does FLOW look like?

“being completely involved in an activity for its own sake.
The ego falls away. Time flies.
Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz.
Your whole being is involved, and you’re using your skills to the utmost.”
Mihalyi Csikszentmihaly

If you need help with increasing your engagement and flow in LIFE, drop us a message with "flow".

Have you recently experienced FLOW?

Happy new year!

YOU DESERVE IT SOO MUCH.

A break at last! The holidays are coming up and maybe you can't wait to finally have some time off - nothing to plan, no todo lists or full schedules - only rest and relaxation.

But after spending days in our pyjamas in front of the TV we don't really feel that rested, do we?

It may come as a surprise, but passive "rest and relaxation" is not as effective for our well-being and recovery as we think.

A number of studies have shown that people who set personal goals during their time off - such as meeting up with friends, pursuing a hobby, or even cleaning out their closet - are happier and more restored than those who don't. It's the difference between passive and active recovery, which basically means being more intentional with our leisure time.

What are your intentions for the upcoming holidays?

Feelings such as joy, love, interest and satisfaction AND have an expanding effect on our thinking and actions. They enable us to open up to creative, flexible and new ways of thinking and acting. All of these are closely related to resilience and well-being. Emotions are contagious and promote the development of sustainable relationships.

Do you believe being self-critical and hard on yourselves is a good thing?

"Nur die Harten komm' in Garten" - really?
We might have learnt and now mistakenly think that being competitive and pushing ourselves hard is required for success.

Scientific research, however, is proving these theories wrong!

Have you ever thought about whether our self-critical and competitive attitudes help us achieve our goals?

We are usually not aware that they are actually standing in our way.

These are the facts:
Scientific data shows that self-criticism makes us weaker in the face of failure, more emotional, and less likely to assimilate lessons from our failures.

Now to the good news:
Studies are finding that there is a far better alternative to self-criticism: self-compassion!

Join our fierce self-compassion workshops and learn more about it.

Do you know the experience of seeing yourself more through the eyes of other people than through your own eyes? This weird state of split consciousness, where you constantly assess how other people might feel and how they might perceive you? Often it is not even a conscious act, but a default way to perceive ourselves and the world. This is especially true for people in (historically or currently) subordinate positions in our society (e.g. women) - because they were or are dependent on people in power and thus needed to be very attuned to the feelings and perceptions and possible threats of other people.
Unfortunately it is also associated with mental health problems. We give our power away and are at the mercy of others' perceived or real judgments.
Let's take back our own power!
If this resonates with you, I would love to hear from you!

Why we need fierce self-compassion for women:

Traditional gender roles restrict the ability of women and men to express the full range of who they are, at great cost both on a personal and societal level.

Women are allowed to be soft, nurturing, and tender. For men, fierceness - angry, forceful and assertive behavior - is expected and rewarded with an increase of perceived competency. Yet when those same qualities are expressed by a woman, she is perceived as too emotional and judged as less competent.

Fear of this backlash leads many women to suppress their fierce side in order to gain social approval. The delegitimization and suppression of inherent powerful emotions like anger prevent women from effectively protecting themselves and driving change. And it harms our mental health.

Self-compassion directly counteracts this stress-response. It allows us to nurture ourselves and empowers us to respond instead of react habitually.

Fierce self-compassion means to stand up for our rights and needs, strengthen our sense of agency and autonomy and set boundaries to protect us.

It can help us to counter the harm done by centuries of being told to keep quiet and look pretty.

Now, this is not a call to flip the script and start dominating men. Real gender equality demands that we integrate both tender and fierce qualities within all of us.

Compassion is rooted in the motivation to alleviate the suffering caused by all injustice.

The more we train it, the more we are able to access this caring force and build new habits to respond to pain with compassion.

So how does it work?

The self-compassion researcher identified three components of self-compassion:

#1 Recognizing that this is a moment of suffering without getting lost in it
#2 Remembering that we are not the only one feeling this pain
#3 Offering ourselves kindness, eg. kind words or a supportive touch, eg. placing your hand gently on your heart, that will sooth the nervous system
