Think the effects of an antibiotic course disappear in a few weeks? Think again.
Overuse in any sector—human or animal—threatens our global ability to fight future infections. New data from over 14,000 participants shows that the human microbiome can take years to recover from certain antibiotic treatments. The research shows that antibiotic use doesn't just kill "bad" bacteria; it causes long-lasting disruptions to the human gut microbiome that can persist for 4 to 8 years. When we lose microbial diversity, we lose a key pillar of our immune defense.

At EW Nutrition, we believe in a "One Health" approach.
Reducing antibiotic use in animal production is a vital step toward protecting the efficacy of these life-saving drugs for humans. Read the full study here: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-026-04284-y

How do you tackle the single largest financial drain on the poultry industry? Coccidiosis and its associated challenges require more than just luck—they require a structured approach.
In this article, Madalina Diaconu goes through the 7 core pillars of poultry health that every producer should be monitoring to ensure long-term profitability and bird welfare.
- Gut Integrity
- Pathogen Pressure
- Biosecurity
- Data-driven Diagnostics ... and more.

The future of European agriculture is becoming simpler and more predictable.
The new proposals for the Common Agricultural Policy 2028–2034 by the European Commission signal a clear move toward reducing administrative burden while strengthening targeted support for farmers and animal producers.

What changes?
For farmers:
• Simplified income support and a small farmer payment (up to €3,000)
• Streamlined agri-environment and climate schemes under one single rulebook
• Transition support of up to €200,000 per farm for sustainable modernisation
• Less paperwork through standard cost options, digital data sharing, and satellite monitoring

For administrations:
• More flexibility in financial management
• One single performance report instead of 32 requirements
• Stronger transparency through a new Single Gateway portal

Overall, these measures aim to improve liquidity, predictability, and trust across the agri-food sector. At EW Nutrition, we welcome steps that allow farmers to focus more on performance, sustainability, and long-term resilience — and less on bureaucracy.

The common agricultural policy (CAP) after 2027 has a central place within the EU’s next budget to deliver on the strategic orientations provided by the Vision for Agriculture and Food.

Exciting news from our research partners at the University of New England!
A new peer-reviewed study published in Poultry Science demonstrates how Ventar D can meaningfully mitigate the impact of Necrotic Enteritis in broilers.
Key highlights from the study:
- Improved body weight gain, feed intake & FCR (d10–35)
- Reduced duodenal lesions & improved villus height/crypt depth ratio
- Shifted NE-related mortality and inflammation markers toward non-challenged levels
- Higher European Production Efficiency Factor (EPEF)

Necrotic Enteritis costs the global poultry industry an estimated $6 billion annually. This research adds to the growing body of evidence that phytogenic solutions can be powerful, natural tools in antibiotic-free production systems. We invite you to read the full publication and discover how nature-derived nutrition science is supporting gut health and sustainable broiler production: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.psj.2026.106592

Feed mills are pushing conditioning temperatures and retention times higher to improve pellet quality, throughput, and pathogen control—but that creates a tough environment for many exogenous enzymes.

In this new EW Nutrition article, Ajay Bhoyar (Senior Global Technical Manager) explains why intrinsically heat-stable xylanase is becoming the practical benchmark for reliable performance under high-temperature pelleting.

Key takeaways:
- Why coatings/encapsulation and post-pelleting liquid application can introduce variability and operational complexity.
- How intrinsically thermostable enzymes are designed to retain activity through typical pelleting conditions (often ~80–95°C), without relying on protective matrices.
- The nutritional and commercial implications: more consistent post-pelleting recovery, improved mixing uniformity, predictable NSP degradation, and lower formulation risk.

Intrinsically heat-stable xylanase delivers reliable, repeatable enzyme performance under high-temperature feed pelleting, enabling consistent nutrient utilization, improved productivity, and lower production costs in modern poultry and swine production.

Last weekend, Ahmed Elattar and Alain Lazaar concluded a final training session in Jinja, Uganda, in collaboration with our distributor, Nutrinova.
The session brought together more than 200 participants and generated strong engagement throughout. Extensive discussions focused on gut health, coccidiosis, eggshell quality, vitamins, and feed quality, highlighting key EW Nutrition solutions including Shellimprover, Pretect D, Formycine GPX, and Micoban.
We thank Nutrinova and all attendees for their commitment and contribution to a productive and impactful session.

The latest long-term analysis from Wageningen University provides an important reminder for everyone working toward responsible livestock production: reducing antibiotic usage alone is not enough to further reduce antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Their review of more than 12,000 E. coli isolates from broilers, pigs, and veal calves shows a clear pattern:
• 2010–2018: strong decline in resistance
• Since 2019: AMR levels have largely plateaued, even though antibiotic usage continued to decrease
This finding raises an essential question for our industry:
What is driving the persistence of AMR when antibiotic inputs are still going down?
The call by the Wageningen research team for deeper, farm-level and genomic investigations is timely. Understanding the biological, microbial, and management factors that sustain resistance is key to designing smarter interventions — beyond simply reducing antimicrobials.
At EW Nutrition, we see this as further evidence that a holistic approach to animal health is crucial: strengthening gut integrity, reducing pathogen pressure, optimizing management conditions, and supporting immunity all play a role in reducing the need for antibiotics — and in addressing the resilience of AMR within production systems.
Continued scientific collaboration, more granular data, and integrated health strategies will be essential to make the next leap forward.

Our long-term partners from the Balkans joined us for two days of exchanging practical ideas, sharing experiences, and looking at new ways to grow our ready-to-use solutions together.
Between discussions on silage management, cattle health, and the everyday challenges on farms, the real value came from the open, honest conversations that only happen in a trusted partnership. And of course, nothing brings people together like a proper Austrian evening; a hearty dinner at a traditional beerhouse and a Glühwein at the Christmas market to wrap up the day.
Thank you to everyone who made the trip and brought so much energy and commitment. Partnerships like these are the reason progress feels natural and fun.

Here’s to continuing our journey together in 2026!
