Meet this 15-year-old male with congenital scoliosis.
In congenital spinal deformities, the indication for surgery — and the choice of the most appropriate surgical technique — cannot be determined by the diagnosis alone. These deformities vary greatly in morphology and biomechanical behavior, and their progression is strongly influenced by growth patterns, segmentation defects, rib anomalies, and compensatory curves.
Therefore, treatment planning must integrate multiple complementary examinations. Only the combination of clinical assessment, functional imaging, and detailed 3-D evaluation reveals the true deforming forces and allows us to design an individualized strategy rooted in the principles of spinal biomechanics.
Especially in congenital deformity, there is no “one-size-fits-all”. Every case demands a tailored approach that respects remaining growth, protects neurological structures, and restores balanced alignment.
