Saturday, October 2nd is World Stomach Day
An important HEALTHY STOMACH INITIATIVE event that serves the important purpose of reminding that 4 billion people worldwide continue to have an unhealthy stomach due of an infection with Helicobacter pylori. The Healthy Stomach Initiative with its 200+ experts from 43+ countries originated the first World Stomach Day on Oct, 02, 2018 and continues with the commitment to improve stomach health globally. Public awareness, study protocols for international collaborations, early detection & prevention of gastric cancer and nutrition / probiotics for well-being are the main focus of this group of experts - the Healthy Stomach initiative.
2021 – a year still very much affected by Covid-19 – yet, important & successful activities continued:
Guidelines for H. pylori management: the so-called Maastricht consensus has just concluded its 6th version during a meeting in Florence providing updates on how to optimize the clinical management.
A European register for H. pylori treatment is now expanding outside of Europe
New activities in Nigeria & neighboring countries in Africa help further promote the important work of the Healthy Stomach Initiative (Prof. Sylvester Nwokediuko, University of Nigeria teaching hospital, Ituku/Ozalla)
A new H. pylori group - GHMSG – German Helicobacter Microbiota Study Group under the leadership of Dr. Christian Schulz was started to further promote and collaborate research.
2021, the Asian Pacific Digestive Week in Kuala Lumpur (virtual) included a very successful Healthy Stomach Initiative meeting chaired by V. Mahachai & KL Goh (https://www.apdwkl2021.org/virtual/programme-22)
We invite you to submit latest activities, publications, study collaborations and country specific overviews on stomach health in support of H.S.I’s 4th WORLD STOMACH DAY today. Please also visit www.hsinitiative.org and register if you would like to be included in this expert group. Thank you.
