🚀 Exciting Kick-Off Day for new study and innovation programme

Today, we launched a study and innovation programme tackling global health challenges in Kibera, Nairobi – in collaboration with 100% for the Children and amazing local partners: Kenya Alliance For Advancement of Children, SHOFCO, Human Needs Project Kenya 🇰🇪 , and Kenya Society for the Blind.

💡 15 students. 4 real-world cases:
➡️ Access to reusable menstrual products
➡️ Microfinancing models for water & sanitation
➡️ Community adoption of biogas
➡️ Sexual & reproductive health engagement for boys with disabilities

The programme equips students with skills to collect data ethically and responsibly, demonstrates how the Sustainable Development Goals are applied in real-world contexts, and introduces them to the Danish Development Cooperation. Working closely with the local partners, they will reflect upon innovative solutions to the pressing global health challenges identified.

A huge thank you to the GLOBUS Foundation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark for the support – and to our incredible case experts for their insights: Namadi Saka, Vincent Otieno, Byrones Khainga, BENSON KIPTUM, and to Kevin Odhier.

Stay tuned for more updates 🌱

🎉 Big congratulations to our University of Copenhagen team for winning the SDG Olympiad 2025!

Their winning idea: The Community-Based Action Plan - a two-phase model helping families of children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) to prepare in advance and act immediately when crisis hits.
For families, the solution means security and clarity: they know where insulin is stored, how to access it, and how to manage emergencies. For the LRC, it brings efficiency and trust: communities are prepared, reducing strain on fragile facilities and enabling safer operations. This model is a blueprint for resilient, community-driven NCD care in crises, advancing SDG 3.⛑️

At the SDG Olympiad, teams from around the world pitched their projects, received guidance, exchanged experiences, tackled new cases during a one-day hackathon, and built lasting global connections.

The team first developed their idea at our yearly case challenge, Global Health Solutions🌱 By winning the case challenge, they were able to present their idea in Geneva for the SDG Olympiad✨

Ellie’s work in the Partnership for the Education of Health Professionals (PEP) focuses on strengthening health professional education in India and Kenya.
