Samskaras - yoga er værktøjet der hjælpe med at omforme dem.

We tend to think of saṃskāras as something negative to erase.

But these habitual patterns are also the raw material for growth, and play an important role on your path to freedom.

Saṃskāras are the mental grooves created by repetitive thoughts and actions. Each repetition leaves a subtle imprint. Over time, those imprints become deeply ingrained habits—and those habits shape how we see and move through the world.

The Sanskrit roots of the word reflect this: saṃ means “well considered,” and kāra means “action.” A saṃskāra is the impression left by an intentional act.

So saṃskāras aren’t always obstacles. Unconscious ones can keep us stuck and reactive, but positive saṃskāras can lead us toward growth, steadiness, and conscious living.

Your yoga practice offers tools to recognize, understand, and soften the unhelpful saṃskāras—and to strengthen the beneficial ones. The more you act from awareness, the more your patterns align with your deepest truth and purest intentions.

Each time you practice with presence, act skillfully, and make choices to reduce harm, you’re strengthening the patterns that help you live more freely.�

Idag er Patanjali hyldest - ham vi chanter til i invokationen 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🧘🏽‍♀️

Today is Patanjali Jayanti.

It is the day we celebrate the teachings of Sage Patanjali.

He is the author of the Yoga Sutras, one of the classical yoga philosophy texts. At the beginning of many Iyengar classes, we chant this invocation to Patanjali to honor the ancient tradition of yoga and the lineage of yoga that we practice.

Geeta Iyengar describes another reason for reciting the chant: ”We chant so that at the very beginning that feeling of sanctification comes from inside, with the feeling of surrendering oneself, because nothing can be learned in this world unless you have the humility to learn.” *

“In each asana, if the contact between the body and the floor-the foundation-is good, the asana will be performed well. Always watch your base: Be attentive to the portion nearest the ground. Correct first from the root. The standing poses are meant to begin providing this foundation for life. They strengthen the ankles and the knees. When a person is mentally disturbed or dejected, you'll notice he can't stand firmly on his feet. These postures teach one how to stand straight so that the brain can float in its position. Feet are like the root of a tree.
If one can't stand properly on one's feet, one develops a negative attitude toward life, and one's yoga too becomes unsteady. These postures help one to maintain stability in times of difficulty and even when catastrophes occur. When stability becomes a habit, maturity and clarity follow. Stability requires balance.”

“One has to find the median line of each asana so that the energy is properly distributed. When one wavers from the median line, then one goes either to the past or the future. Vertical ascending is the future; vertical descending is the past. The horizontal is the present. The present is the perfect asana. When you open horizontally, the future and past meet in the present. This is how dynamic extension and expansion allow you to find balance and live more fully in the present through your body. In asana, we find balance and integration in the three dimensions of space, but we also find balance and integration in the fourth dimension of time.”

“The ancient books have called Sirsasana the king of all asanas and the reasons are not hard to find. When we are born, normally the head comes out first and then the limb. The skull encases the brain, which controls the nervous system and the organs of sense. The brain is the seat of intelligence, knowledge, discrimination, wisdom and power. It is the seat of Brahman, the soul. A country cannot prosper without a proper king or constitutional head to guide it; so also the human body cannot prosper without a healthy brain.

Regular practice of Sirsasana makes healthy pure blood flow through the brain cells. This rejuvenates them so that thinking power increases and thoughts become clearer.“
