To have wear Krone Performance merch is special. He is not only a mental strong player, but also a true role model and leader, giving back to and and a lot of young and hopeful basketball players.
I have had the privilege to speak to a lot of sportsteams and organisations about mental strength and the importance of mental training in sports. Both to enhance the chances of performing well and winning, but also to maintain and develop mental health in general.
Almost every session I have with teams, organisations or individuals, the fear of failure topic is brought up. It makes sense that players wants to succeed, score, win etc., but it is not gonna happen all the time. On the contrary, in many sports you miss more than you score and you lose a good amount of games/matches. So is a missed shot in basketball therefore a failure, or maybe just a normal and common part of the game? Just as a missed swing in base/softball.
When you learn to focus on the positive outcome of your task, and accept the fact that missing shots and losing are possible outcomes, you will not worry about failure, because it does not exist. Failure, as we often say when we do not succeed, is a chance to learn something.
So we either succeed or learn.
Now, I am not sure what Dennis Schröder was thinking before the two shots in the videos. Maybe he is not even thinking anything, but just being in the moment. But should I take a guess, I am sure the thought of missing shots, does not even enter his mind.
Be courageous and believe in the positive, be realistic and accept all outcomes and be wise and keep working in both your physical, technical and mental development.
