Most of you are probably busy with Christmas preparations.

I have just finished cooking the rice porridge for tomorrow's dessert, Risalamande 🥣

Today also brings us to the publication of The Family Histories Podcast's season finale, and I was so lucky to be the guest.

I hope you all enjoy listening to it. Ask away if you wonder which sources I used or where I found them.

Do you have Swedish ancestors? 🇸🇪

The Swedish genealogy source portal ArkivDigital has a Black Friday offer for 20 days of access for only 20 Swedish kroner, which is about 2 US$.

The offer is valid until 2 December 2025.

I don't earn anything, if you sign up for this. I just share the offer, because I know several of my followers have both Swedish and Danish ancestors.

ArkivDigital är Sveriges ledande leverantör av historiskt källmaterial via internet till historiker, släkt- och hembygdsforskare och andra som vill studera källorna i original.

My first Legacy Family Tree webinar is finally out!

Topic: The tool DigDag - a digital atlas of Denmark’s jurisdictions since the 1600s.

You can search the online atlas for various types of jurisdictions and authorities, including medical districts, courts, and military jurisdictions. The lesson includes tips for determining Danish place names, when you are uncertain about the spelling.

Watch the webinar to learn how to use DigDag to assist you in your Danish family history research.

Legacy Family Tree Weinars membership is required. I may receive a fee if you watch this webinar.

I have decided to spend this year's Family History Month digging deeper into my father's life.

I tend to research my distant ancestors the most. Perhaps because I've never met them. But now it's time to have look at my father's life, particularly his childhood and youth before he had me and my brothers.

Would you like to know more about a specific ancestor? I would love to hear about it in the comments 👇

Take your genealogical writing to another level with one of the profession’s most respected educators.

Many genealogists use Microsoft Word daily, yet only scratch the surface of what it can do. In this nine-part masterclass, Dr Thomas W. Jones will show you how to harness Word’s advanced features to create clear, polished, professional genealogical documents.

Each 1.5-hour session (there are 9 sessions) combines instruction with hands-on application:

Week 1: Learn and practise a specific feature of Word.

Week 2: Apply it to your own writing and receive personalised feedback from Tom.

Across the course, you’ll gain practical strategies for improving document setup, tables, citations, layout, and overall styling—ensuring your work is not only accurate but presented to the highest standard. (Plus there are handouts for each session!)

When researching parish registers (aka church books) at the website of the Danish National Archives, you may encounter this image which covers the last column of some parish registers.

The remarks that may be written in the last column have been redacted to protect the privacy of living persons. For technical reasons the redaction was applied to all imaged parish registers beginning in or after 1892.

If the record you need is more than 100 years old, you can often find the full image at Ancestry in the collection "Denmark, Church Records, 1812-1924." You do not need a subscription to see the images in that collection.
