One of the benefits of a good strength program is that it will build your strength not just in the positions you commonly use in your daily life but also in deeper, more extreme ranges of motion that we tend to neglect and avoid wherever possible.
When was the last time you were in a really deep squat or a long lunge position?
How good do you think your strength, balance, and coordination are in those types of positions if you can't even remember the last time you used them?
If you bumped up against some difficult terrain that required you to be able to crouch down low, crawl on your hands and knees, jump over or step across some large obstacle, how do you think you would you perform?
It's hard to measure the psychological benefits of being able to easily navigate the physical challenges we find ourselves presented with without having to limit where we can wander.
Being physically fit gives us the freedom to be spontaneous. And it reminds us that we are fit for survival and prepared for whatever challenges life decides to throw at us.
