For about seven months, I have had the privilege to work with this great and amazing team at the St. Andrew's Refugee Service (StARS), Cairo-Egypt.
Throughout the period, I have seen reasons to enhance the quality of life of individuals and the importance to address the needs of underserved populations.
Together, we served the refugee and vulnerable immigrant communities in Cairo-Egypt. We worked hand-in-hand with partner Community Based Organizations, and offered training to caregivers, parents and teachers on different topics including Hygiene, Nutrition, First-aid, Child Safeguarding and Protection, and others.
This experience has not only added to my professional growth, but it has also given me the opportunity to contribute my expertise to the organization; in the field of health, leadership, as well as soft skills such as graphic design, presentation, development of training materials and offering actual training to caregivers, parents, and teachers. It also helped me to build meaningful relationships.
On the 17th of this month, I left the team and the Organization feeling fulfilled โ not because I was excited about leaving, but because my heart was gladdened by the impacts we could make in those communities.
To celebrate and finally bid me a farewell, the team organized a feast, bought pizzas, Ice creams, mineral waters, and a cake. Yes, I was made to cut my first-ever cake. Omo, that feeling hits different. ๐
Now I understand why sometimes people set tears of joy. ๐
I'm truly grateful to our team coordinator, Beatrice Wani, the entire team, and the organization for the experience.
