Dr Magdi Shehata MBBCh, DM, FRCS [Eng.]
After earning his undergraduate degree, he completed his training in General Surgery and Transplantation in UK. He was first appointed as Consultant General and Transplant Surgeon in 1994 at Royal Stoke University Hospital, then moved to Nottingham University Hospitals, one of the largest Medical School in UK, in 1996. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 1988 and was granted his Doctorate Degree [PhD] from Sheffield University, UK in 1994. Dr Magdi Shehata is renowned in UK and internationally for his clinical research and minimal invasive surgery. A pioneers in laparoscopic surgery and the first to carry out laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy in Uk in 1998, in Pakistan in 2000 and in Egypt [Mansoura Institute] in 2002. He has been teaching laparoscopic techniques to other surgeons for decades and hosted conferences and ran teaching course for junior and senior surgeons. Dr Shehata has a strong academic background, he conducted numerous research projects related to kidney transplantation. He has presented in several national and international meetings and published articles in scientific journals [A list of MS publications is available from the PubMed.gov website]. In recognition of his contribution to clinical and basic science research he was appointed as a Professor in the School of Medical and Surgical Sciences of Nottingham University in 2006. He has a strong interest in education and ran national and international training courses for junior surgeons and consultants, including the surgical skills courses for the Royal College Surgical. He has a major interest in medico legal work and acted for years as an expert witness for both claimants and defendants and was appointed as Surgical Advisor to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman in uk. Dr Magdi Shehata is an active member of the European Association of Endoscopic Surgery and the British and American Hernia societies. Dr Magdi Shehata believes in creating a partnership with his patients, through education and preoperative optimisation. His goal is to develop an individual treatment for each individual patient.
