"ما هي المؤشرات المبكرة التى تؤدى الى فقدان السمع الناتج عن التقدم في السن (الصمم في مرحلة الشيخوخة)؟
قد يواجه المصاب صعوبة في فهم الكلام بفقدان السمع خلال المراحل الأولى لفقدان السمع. و يزيد إذا تواجدت أصوات مرتفعة حوله (كالتواجد في أحد المطاعم مثلاً).
و يبدأ الشخص أيضاً بالتحدث بصوت عالى من دون أن يدرك ذلك.
ومن علامات الصمم في مرحلة الشيخوخة أيضاً الإحساس برنين في الأذنين (طنين) و الصعوبة فى سماع الأصوات العالية."
