A new MMWR study shows that wearing a mask indoors helps protect against COVID-19.

Compared with those who reported not wearing a face covering, people who reported always wearing one in indoor public settings were less likely to test positive for COVID-19.

Respirators (N95/KN95) were most protective. Wear a mask in indoor public settings to help protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

The problem with not flossing is in how your body responds. ⁠

Your body recognizes the buildup of bacteria as an invasion — so it sends in its paratroopers to fight it off.⁠

This is called an inflammatory response, and it breaks down the collagen and fibers responsible for keeping your teeth in your mouth. When those fibers are destroyed, your teeth get loose and fall out.⁠

This chronic inflammatory reaction is also connected to weight gain as well as systemic diseases like heart disease and dementia.⁠

The pandemic has highlighted the importance of reducing overall inflammation. Chronic inflammation can make one more susceptible to uncontrolled inflammation when infected by the coronavirus, leading to a cytokine storm. This is an extreme release of cytokines in response to infection due to a loss of regulation on the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines.⁠

Every day that you don’t floss, these little colonies of bacteria are colonizing and creating a firm foothold onto the sides of your roots, teeth, and gums.⁠
