Foal Clostridial Diarrhea
Clostridium perfringens Types A and C and Clostridium difficile have the potential to cause enterocolitis or inflammation of the small and large intestine in neonatal foals. Clostridium perfringens Type A is commonly found in the environment of horse farms, especially with historical presence of other species of livestock. Clinical signs of clostridium enerotoxemia include severe abdominal pain or colic, foul smelling or bloody diarrhea, dehydration, depression, abdominal distention and or rapid death. Early preparation and prevention is the key.
Attached is the protocol that we use here at the ERL.
