Fabrizio Picchione PhD is an Advanced Certified Practitioner of the Rolf Method of Structural Integration also known as Rolfing. He discovered to have a deep passion in body work after receiving the full 10 sessions program of Structural Integration, which helped him recovering from his long term shoulder and back pain. He trained in the US, under the supervision of Emmett Hutchins, who has now more than 40 years of experience in Rolfing. Since he started practicing the Rolf Method of Structural Integration he has helped many people discovering a new sense of balance and freedom in their body, which led them to overcome physical pain and discomfort. The aim of Rolfing-Structural Integration is to balance the body structure using a myofascial release technique specifically affecting the fascial connective tissue. If we compare the human body to a camping tent, the poles are the bones and the tent's ropes are the fascia fibers. The tent is not held by the poles, but by its ropes, or rather their tension is what makes the tent stand still and not collapse. With Rolfing the tension in the ropes can be adjusted and your body can be reorganized around its vertical axis. You will not only get a better posture and coordination, but you will also experience a greater flexibility and a better breathing, improving your physical and sport performance and rediscovering a general feeling of well-being. The body structural changes obtained with this holistic technique will continue to improve even after the end of the full treatment. Fabrizio was born in Italy and has lived in USA for many years, where he has also worked as a muscle cancer researcher. Beside the Rolf Method of Structural Integration certification, he holds a doctorate in molecular and cell biology obtained from the Erasmus university in Rotterdam.

It links our spine to our legs, our movement to our balance, and our structure to our emotions and gut (bowel) responses. In structural integration, the psoas reveals how deeply posture, stability, and emotional holding are connected—inviting the body back into balance from the inside out.

lo Psoas (spesso chiamato Psoas-Iliaco)! Non è un semplice muscolo, è il Grande Saggio Nascosto del corpo, il cui dramma è causato principalmente dalla vita moderna.
🧘 Il Muscolo dell'Anima Sotto Tensione (La Tragicómica Storia dello Psoas) 🛋️
Lo Psoas è un muscolo lungo e massiccio, così profondo che è quasi impossibile toccarlo. Si attacca alle vertebre lombari (da T12 a L5), scende attraverso il bacino e si attacca al femore. È il ponte segreto tra la parte superiore e quella inferiore del tuo corpo.
Atto I: Il Pilastro Segreto (La Tragedia della Responsabilità)
Lo Psoas è il più grande flessore dell'anca. Senza di lui, non potresti alzare la gamba, camminare, o uscire da una sedia.
• Il Ruolo: È il custode della postura. Quando sei in piedi, aiuta a mantenere la curva lombare. Quando cammini, è l'eroe che tira il ginocchio in avanti.
• La Condanna Moderna: La sua tragedia è la Sedia da Ufficio. Passare ore e ore seduti costringe lo Psoas a rimanere in uno stato cronicamente accorciato. È come chiedere a un atleta di stare rannicchiato in un armadio per otto ore al giorno.
• Il Tradimento: Quando si accorcia troppo, diventa un tiranno: tira in avanti le vertebre lombari (causando il classico mal di schiena), e si irrita, fingendosi a volte un'appendicite o un dolore all'inguine. È un maestro del travestimento doloroso.
Atto II: Il Detective Emotivo (Il Dramma dell'Anima)
La parte più drammatica, che gli ha valso il soprannome di "Muscolo dell'Anima", è il suo coinvolgimento nella risposta "lotta o fuga" (fight or flight).
• Il Panico Ancestrale: In una situazione di pericolo (che sia una tigre o una mail del capo), il corpo si prepara automaticamente: si accovaccia, si rannicchia. E chi è il muscolo principale che esegue questa flessione protettiva? Lo Psoas.
• La Memoria del Corpo: Lo Psoas ha la sfortuna di trattenere questa tensione. L'ansia cronica e lo stress emotivo si traducono in una contrazione perenne dello Psoas. In pratica, è l'archivio muscolare delle tue paure e del tuo stress quotidiano.
Atto III: La Goofiness della Liberazione (La Commedia)
La commedia entra in gioco quando si cerca di risolvere il suo malumore:
• Il Gesto Scomodo: Per allungarlo e liberarlo, bisogna assumere posizioni come l'affondo profondo o lo stretching dell'anca, gesti che in un ambiente non-yoga-friendly appaiono quasi osceni.
• L'Ironia: Il muscolo più profondo e potente del corpo, quello che gestisce i traumi emotivi, spesso si lamenta solo perché gli viene chiesto di allungarsi di qualche millimetro dopo che è stato schiacciato in un posto per otto ore.
Lo Psoas è, in conclusione, un eroe essenziale, un magazzino emotivo e la vittima inconsapevole della nostra vita sedentaria. È il vero influencer della postura, un tiranno quando contratto, ma un saggio quando rilassato.
