Are you participating in this year’s CrossFit Open? Leave a comment with your most wished-for WOD below!

🏋️ I did my first Open back in 2015 — nailing my first ring muscle-ups at a box in Bali (amazing memory) — and then I took a break, making this my second Open ever. Having done zero conditioning training for maybe two years, I think I’m in for some pain, haha!

💪 It’s a fun happening, though. You get one workout per week, to complete together with friends and family. They are quite varied, albeit with a heavy focus on cardiovascular ability, and shows all your weaknesses with unmerciful clarity.

When starting out in the fitness world, people often make the mistake of wanting to do EVERYTHING at once. Myself included! It's powerlifting on Mon/Wed/Fri, half-marathons over lunch breaks, weightlifting Tue/Thu/Sat, mobility work in the evenings, and CrossFit on the weekends — all while losing fat and building muscle simultaneously.

They (we) enjoy this for a few weeks before it inevitably comes to a crashing halt, as it's simply not sustainable for much longer.

Then do we adjust our plan? Of course not! The problem, we decide instead, is our lack of motivation or discipline, or perhaps a temporary hurdle in our life. We'll get back to it, we tell ourselves. Just not today but SOME DAY.

One of the most powerful practices, which I've passed on to many of my clients, is to think smaller but longer. Fitness, after all, is a long-long-long-term game (if not infinite).

What if we flipped this? Instead of doing "everything, some day" let's do SOMETHING, EVERY DAY!

For me, this is most often lifting heavy objects. Sometimes, though, I go for a run. And other times, I simply stretch for twenty minutes. There's always SOMETHING that can push you and, if you're smart about it, you can do it EVERY DAY.
