The "Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases"(Shāng Hán Zá Bìng Lùn, 伤寒杂病论) is one of the most important and influential works in TCM📖. It was written by Zhang Zhongjing👨‍⚕️, a renowned medical scholar and practitioner who lived during the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-AD 220).

The book is divided into two parts: the "Shāng Hán Lùn" (伤寒论), which focuses on cold-induced illnesses, and the "Zá Bìng Lùn" (杂病论), which covers a wide range of miscellaneous diseases. "Zá Bìng Lùn" contains a total of 112 sections, each describing a different type of disease and its corresponding symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment.

One of the most important contributions of "Zá Bìng Lùn" to TCM is the concept of "biàn zhèng lùn zhì" (辨证论治)🤓, which means "distinguishing the patterns and treating accordingly." This approach emphasizes the importance of understanding a disease's underlying patterns and causes to provide effective treatment.

The "Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases" is a medical text and a cultural treasure🤩. It reflects the deep understanding of the human body and the natural world that underlies TCM and embodies the wisdom and knowledge of generations of Chinese medical practitioners🥳.

The Beginning of Summer🍃, the 7th of the 24 solar terms, marks the beginning of the peak season for the growth of all things💐. In TCM, this period requires special attention to maintaining good health🦷. Here are some tips to help you stay healthy during this time.

According to TCM, nourishing the heart during the summer months is essential. This not only refers to the physical heart but also encompasses the entire nervous system and psychological well-being. To achieve this, avoiding excessively dry or spicy foods and managing anger and emotional stress in daily life are recommended😄.

During the Beginning of Summer, there is heat, humidity, and lingering dampness🌧️. To combat this, avoiding sweet and greasy foods and instead eating some bitter vegetables🥬 in moderation are most recommended. TCM believes that bitter flavors can clear heat and dampness, so vegetables such as lettuce, celery, dandelion, and lily bulbs are recommended.

Summer health maintenance involves adjusting to the natural world's changes, with the dominance of Yang energy and deficiency of Yin energy. This includes staying up later, waking up earlier, and taking a nap during the day to supplement the lack of sleep at night. These practices can boost energy and prevent cardiovascular diseases.

By following these TCM tips, you can stay healthy and make the most of this season's abundant energy💪.

Adding cinnamon to coffee☕️ may enhance its aroma, but did you know that it is also a powerful herb🍃 in TCM? Let's explore the benefits of this fantastic herb together🤩!

Cinnamon is considered spicy, sweet, and has a highly warm nature in TCM. It is associated with the kidney, spleen, heart, and liver meridians and has many benefits. It can supplement fire and assist yang, return fire to its source, dispel cold🤧, relieve pain, and promote blood circulation. Cinnamon is also believed to be effective in treating impotence, cold uterus, cold pain in the lower back and knees, wheezing due to kidney deficiency, and dizziness due to yang deficiency.

In addition to its medicinal uses, cinnamon is also a popular spice🌶️ used in cooking and baking. It can add a warm and sweet flavor to dishes such as oatmeal, apple pie, and chai tea.

For those who suffer from restlessness and insomnia, here is a simple recipe using cinnamon and coptis: steep 5 grams of cinnamon and 3 grams of coptis in hot water and take it orally. This can help calm the mind and promote better sleep.

What are you waiting for? Just try and experience the many benefits of this fantastic herb for yourself🥰!

Have you ever heard of Ge Hong👨‍⚕️, an ancient doctor, and alchemist from China?

Ge Hong, also known as 抱朴子 (bào pǔ zǐ), lived during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317 AD - 420 AD) and was revered for his contributions to TCM. He authored several important TCM texts, including The Inner Analects of Bao Pu-zi (抱朴子内篇, Bào Pŭ Zĭ Nèi Piān)📖, which covers topics such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, and dietary therapy. Among Ge Hong's most famous works are Emergency Formulas to Keep Up One’s Sleeve(肘后备急方, Zhŏu Hòu Bèi Jí Fāng), a book on emergency prescriptions still used in TCM today🤩.

Nutrition is the foundation of health. There is an old saying in Traditional Chinese Medicine, "First, modify the patient's diet and lifestyle and then, if that does not effect a cure, treat with medicinals and acupuncture."

This is one of the reasons that we often recommend a few months of nutrition and dietary therapy BEFORE we use acupuncture.

Much of what we are doing with acupuncture, from a conventional viewpoint, is asking the body to do specific biochemical and hormones actions. IF the nutrition is not in place for these reactions to occur, then acupuncture is of no use. Your body can't do what we ask (say make serotonin) if you are nutritionally deficient.
