In , I write about how one of my colleagues posted this in our office: “There is a continuing decision to be made as to whether to evade pain, or to tolerate it and therefore modify it.”
That’s the real work of therapy—and often, of life. The choice to turn toward our pain instead of away from it. Not to wallow in it, but to face it with enough honesty and support that it loses its grip on us.
Pain demands our attention. But when we allow ourselves to feel it, we also give ourselves the chance to heal it.
