Across the globe, people are living longer. One in ten children in the United Kingdom is expected to live beyond the age of 100. But who gets to live longer and ‘age well’? As people live longer than ever before, it raises important questions around longevity, wellbeing, and equality, asking not just how long we live, but how well.
The exhibition ‘The Coming of Age’, which will be open until 29 November 2026 at the Wellcome Collection free museum and library in London, explores experiences and perceptions of ageing, from adolescence to later life, and asks how societies can adapt for us all to age better.
Featuring over 120 works, from historical artefacts to contemporary pieces, this compelling exhibition explores what it means to age in today’s world, and considers how society can evolve to help us all age better.
At Lura Care, we care for thousands of elderly people who are dependent or disabled every year, so we are keenly aware of the importance of reflecting on what ageing means, and of the importance of combating ageism. And to make this possible, we must ensure access to the same rights at every stage of life, such as access to healthcare services that are not restricted by mobility issues.
We encourage you to visit this fascinating exhibition and, above all, to reflect on how we want to approach ageing and what kind of society—both now and in the future—we want to build together so that our elderly receive the treatment they deserve.
