The 30-minute protein myth: Stop panicking in the locker room!

Are you still sprinting to your locker to chug your protein shake before your muscles “starve”?

For decades, the fitness industry told us that the “Anabolic Window” was a tiny, fragile 30-minute timeframe that closes the second you leave the gym.

But it’s actually not a window. It’s a barn door.

When you lift weights, you sensitise your muscle tissue to amino acids. Research shows this muscle-building state stays elevated for 24 to 48 hours after a hard session. Your body does not shut down at minute 31!

What actually dictates your muscle growth is what you do on a daily basis (your total overall protein intake), not what you do in the frantic 30 minutes post-workout.

Stop forcing down a shake when you’re still sweating and stressed. Work out. Go home. Relax. Eat a meal. Drink a shake if you want extra protein - and when you actually have time to enjoy it. 🌱✨

The update many of you have been waiting for ⬇️

Banana Bread will be making its comeback mid-May! To make this possible, I had to reach quite a few milestones and take some risks that will hopefully pay off 😅 (so please don’t abandon me, haha).

It also means that I’ll start partnering with a fulfillment center as operations are getting too big for my current setup. We’ll start with a testing period in April, and I’ll let you know what this means once the time gets closer.

The goals are:
For you: more space for a bunch of new products, faster order processing and more carrier options.
For me: more time to move the brand forward with you instead of packing parcels - the opportunity to go on my first actual holiday since starting WAM 2 years ago 😅

Why WAM protein powder doesn’t have added vitamins 💊

In the fitness industry, throwing a random cocktail of 26+ vitamins into a shake is a classic marketing gimmick to make the label look better.

But biologically? It doesn’t make a lot of sense. Here is why we keep WAM strictly focused on protein:

🩸 1. You maybe just don’t need it: Supplementation should be targeted and based on your actual lifestyle and bloodwork, not a generic scoop of powder.
🚽 2. The “Expensive Pee” Effect: If you have no need for supplementation, doing it anyway through your post-workout shake just means you are creating expensive p*e - or worse, risking an accidental overdose of certain vitamins or minerals that aren’t water-soluble.
🛑 3. Poor Bioavailability: Minerals like Iron, Magnesium, and Zinc actively compete for absorption. If you throw them all into a protein shake, it creates a “traffic jam” and your body won’t absorb them optimally anyway.

A protein shake has one job: providing the amino acids your body needs to grow and maintain muscle. It shouldn’t be a random cocktail just to look good on the label.

Are you filling the tank, but forgetting the ignition key? 🔑🚗

Yes, protein provides the raw materials (amino acids) to repair your muscles, which is exactly like filling your car’s tank with fuel. But having fuel in the tank doesn’t make the car move. You need a specific signal to tell the body to actually start building.

The Ignition Key:
To turn the engine on, you need two things: a stimulus (your workout) + an essential amino acid called Leucine. Leucine is a biological trigger that starts muscle protein synthesis.

Here is the catch:
Many single-source plant proteins are naturally very low in Leucine. You might be perfectly hitting your daily protein gram goals, but missing the key you need to use that protein effectively.

WAM isn’t just a tasty vegan protein, it’s an optimised one. Every single serving of WAM is specifically calibrated with added Leucine to ensure you hit that crucial muscle-building threshold. You get the same biological trigger as a whey protein shake, but 100% vegan with zero compromises. 🌱✨

And whole food sources? Seitan is a great source of Leucine! Followed by soy products like tofu, tempeh or edamame.

Do we really need another protein powder brand? 🤔

When I started formulating WAM, everyone told me the industry was saturated. But finding a vegan protein that didn’t taste like an aggressive artificial syrup or clumpy cardboard felt impossible.

Even worse, the brands that did exist were steeped in diet culture, setting the focus on looks over health - something I didn’t want to support any longer.

So, I’m building the new standard. 👩‍🔬

What makes WAM different?

5-Ingredient Vanilla Coconut Bliss Balls 🥥✨

We are back with an easy, no-bake vegan snack!

These bliss balls take about 5 minutes to make and are the perfect snack to keep in the fridge.

Ingredients:
🥥 2 Scoops (approx. 30g) WAM Vegan Vanilla Protein
🥥 50g Shredded Coconut (Fine) + extra for rolling
🥥 30g Almond Flour
🥥 1 tbsp Maple Syrup or Agave
🥥 6-7 tbsp Coconut Milk

How to make them:
1️⃣ Add all your dry ingredients to a bowl, then stir in the syrup and coconut milk.
2️⃣ Mix until everything sticks together nicely.
3️⃣ Roll into snack-size balls.
4️⃣ Coat them in extra shredded coconut if you’re feeling fancy!

What is happening?! 🤯

Thank you all so much for showing WAM protein so much love these last few weeks, and particularly days.

I’ll continue to do my best to bring you products that don’t taste like the mainstream, are 100% vegan without compromise and free from diet culture BS. 🪴

I would also love to do more content, but you are keeping me quite busy with packing orders and shifting boxes around in a now-too-tiny storage area (you see what I’m working with in the video 😅). I will move to a fulfillment center over the next few months and will keep you updated on all the steps 💛

This is one of the most common questions I get: “Why don’t you have a special version for women?”

The honest answer? Because “Women’s Protein” is just a marketing trick.

Here is the formula most brands use:
1️⃣ Take standard protein.
2️⃣ Put it in a smaller tub with cursive font. 🌸
3️⃣ Sprinkle in some cheap additives.
4️⃣ Charge 20% more.

It’s not physiology; it’s just marketing.

Your muscle fibres don’t care about the colour of the label. They care about Amino Acids.

You don’t need a specific “women’s version” to see results. You just need high-quality protein, period.

Maths vs. Biology: Is 20g of protein always 20g? ⚖️🧬

Does it matter where your protein comes from, as long as you hit your daily target?

The short answer: Yes.

Here is the science: Protein isn’t a single block; it’s a chain of amino acids. Some of those links are far more valuable to your body than others.

For muscle repair specifically, we need to look at Branched Chain Amino Acids—especially one called Leucine.

A cheap protein source might give you “20g of protein” on the label. 📉 But if it’s low in Leucine, your body won’t be able to use it efficiently to rebuild muscle.

Don’t just count the grams. Check the amino acid profile.

Muscle Tissue Does Not Have a Gender. So why does your protein powder? 🤨

Walk into any supplement shop and you see two worlds: 🔥 “Beast Mode” for men. 🌸 “Slim & Tone” for women.

It’s a lie.

All muscle fibres need the same things to repair. To recover from a workout, they need, first and foremost: Rest and Nutrients — and among those, you guessed it: protein!

All a protein powder should provide is: 1️⃣ A high Protein content (>70%, or 70g per 100g, if vegan), with... 2️⃣ A Complete Amino Acid Profile, with... 3️⃣ Sufficient Leucine.

It doesn’t need random added vitamins and minerals or “skinny” blends designed to starve you.

At WAM, we formulate for human physiology, not stereotypes. Stop paying the “Pink Tax” for expensive p*e, a smaller tub and cursive font on the label. 🚫💸
