November is Movember: A Month Dedicated to Men’s Health Awareness

At Healthcare Barcelona, we stand with the global Movember movement, an initiative dedicated to improving men’s health, raising awareness, and encouraging early detection of key conditions that affect millions worldwide.

Movember focuses on three major pillars:
🔹 Prostate cancer
🔹 Testicular cancer
🔹 Men’s mental health & su***de prevention

🔹 Key Facts About Men’s Health

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men globally.

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men aged 15–40.

Men die by su***de at significantly higher rates, often due to social stigma around expressing emotions or seeking help.

Many health concerns in men go undetected because symptoms can be subtle, or because men often delay medical visits.

🔹 When to Seek Medical Advice

You should consider a check-up if you experience:

Urinary changes, pelvic discomfort, or family history of prostate cancer.

Testicular lumps, swelling, or persistent pain.

Persistent stress, anxiety, loss of motivation, mood changes, or sleep disturbances.

A general decline in energy, unexplained weight changes, or ongoing fatigue.

Taking action early can make a major difference in treatment outcomes and overall well-being.

🔹 How You Can Prioritize Your Health This Movember

Schedule a preventive check-up. Annual screenings help detect issues early.

Talk openly. Share how you feel, physically and mentally, with trusted people.

Support your mental health. Speak with a professional if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Stay active. Regular exercise supports both physical and mental health.

Encourage the men around you to take care of themselves and seek medical advice when needed.

This Movember, take a step toward better health.
If you have concerns or want a preventive assessment, our multidisciplinary team at Healthcare Barcelona is here to support you with comprehensive, international-standard care.

Why Does Your Nose Run in Cold Weather?

Even without a cold or nasal congestion, many people notice a runny nose when temperatures drop. This is actually a normal physiological response.

The Role of the Nose

The nose warms, humidifies, and filters the air before it reaches the lungs. When the air is cold and dry, the body adapts:

Blood vessels inside the nose dilate to warm the incoming air.

The nasal glands produce more mucus to add moisture.

Condensation forms inside the nostrils, resulting in a clear, watery discharge.

This is known as cold-induced rhinitis or vasomotor rhinitis.
It is harmless and not a sign of infection.

Why Are Some People More Sensitive?

Several factors can increase this response:

Greater nerve sensitivity to temperature changes

A history of allergies or chronic rhinitis

Exposure to dry or windy environments

Wearing glasses, which can influence humidity around the nose

How to Reduce Cold-Induced Runny Nose

Cover your nose and mouth with a scarf to warm the air before inhaling.

Avoid sudden changes in temperature when possible.

Use a humidifier indoors to maintain adequate moisture levels.

A runny nose in the cold simply means your respiratory system is doing its job.

The Myth of “Smoking Helps Me Relax” — Here’s the Truth ✨

Many smokers believe that ci******es help them calm down.
But what if the relaxation you feel has nothing to do with the cigarette at all?

Let’s break the myth 👇

🧠 Myth: “Smoking relaxes me.”
💡 Truth: The sensation of relief comes from deep breathing, not the ni****ne.
When you inhale, you take a slow, controlled breath — and that activates your body’s relaxation system.

🫁 Myth: “A cigarette reduces my stress.”
💡 Truth: Ni****ne actually increases your heart rate and stress hormones.
Any “relief” you feel is just stopping the withdrawal symptoms that ni****ne itself created.

😌 What really relaxes you:

Slow, deep breathing

Taking a moment away from stress

Brief mental pauses

Rituals that feel familiar

🔥 You can get all of that — without harming your body.

At Healthcare Barcelona, we help patients understand the body’s responses and find healthier ways to manage stress.
If you’re thinking of quitting or want support, we’re here to help.

November: The Month Without To***co

Every year, many countries dedicate November to raising awareness about the benefits of quitting smoking — a global movement known as “The Month Without To***co.”

Even taking a one-month break from smoking can significantly improve lung function, circulation, and energy levels. It’s also a great opportunity to start building healthier, lasting habits — and you don’t have to do it alone.

At Healthcare Barcelona – International Medical Center, our doctors are here to support you with medical guidance, personalized strategies, and follow-up care. We understand that quitting isn’t easy, but small steps make a big difference.

One simple tip we share with our patients is the 3-3-3 rule:
• Wait 3 minutes when a craving strikes — it often passes.
• Take 3 deep breaths to refocus and calm your body.
• Drink a glass of water to distract and refresh yourself.

This November, join millions around the world in taking the first step toward a smoke-free life — with the full support of our team.

Halloween & La Castanyada: seasonal superfoods with real benefits!

As we celebrate both and in Barcelona, it’s the perfect moment to enjoy traditional autumn ingredients like squash and sweet potatoes, not just tasty, but full of health benefits:

💪 Immune Support: Rich in vitamin A and C, these orange-hued veggies strengthen your immune system , just in time for colder days.
🧠 Mood & Energy Boost: Their natural carbohydrates and vitamin B6 help keep your energy stable and your mood positive.
💖 Heart Health: Packed with fiber and potassium, they support healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
🌟 Antioxidant Power: Beta-carotene gives them their vibrant color and protects your cells from oxidative stress.

Enjoy them roasted, in soups, or as part of your Castanyada feast, your body (and taste buds) will thank you!

28/10/2025

🕒 As the days grow shorter and sunlight exposure decreases, our bodies produce less vitamin D, an essential nutrient that supports bone health, immune function, and mood regulation.

This reduction, combined with the seasonal time change, can affect our circadian rhythm, often leading to fatigue, low mood, or decreased concentration.

At Healthcare Barcelona, our medical team can help you adapt to this seasonal shift. Through personalized assessments, including vitamin D level testing and lifestyle guidance, we can help restore your balance and energy levels during the darker months. 🌤️

Take care of your health this season. Your body and mind will thank you. 💙

Early detection saves lives 💗
Here’s how you can do a simple breast self-check at home:

👋 Step 1: Stand in front of a mirror with your shoulders straight and arms on your hips. Look for changes in size, shape, or color — any dimpling, swelling, or skin changes.

🖐️ Step 2: Raise your arms and check again for the same changes.

🤲 Step 3: Gently feel your breasts while lying down, using the pads of your fingers in a circular motion — from your collarbone down to your ribs, and from your armpit to your cleavage.

🚿 Step 4: Repeat the check while standing (many find it easiest in the shower).

🩺 When to do it:
Once a month, ideally a few days after your period ends — when your breasts are least tender.

📅 When to see a doctor:
If you notice any lump, ni**le discharge, skin dimpling, or pain that feels unusual — book an appointment.

At Healthcare Barcelona, our doctors are here to help you understand what’s happening, decide if imaging tests are needed, and guide you on the next steps.
Please note — consultations are by appointment only.

💕 Let’s make awareness a habit — not just for October, but all year round.

After a summer full of outdoor activities, travel, and changes in routine, September is the perfect time to focus on your health. 🌱

A general check-up helps detect early signs of health issues and ensures you’re ready for the new season. Here’s what we recommend checking after the holidays:

Blood tests – to assess cholesterol, blood sugar, liver and kidney function.

Blood pressure & heart health – especially if there’s a family history of cardiovascular disease.

Weight & metabolic health – summer indulgences can affect balance and energy levels.

Vitamin D and essential nutrients – after months of sun exposure and dietary changes.

Routine screenings – such as thyroid function or hormone levels if relevant.

As routines settle with the return to school and cooler weather, this is the ideal moment to prioritize prevention and create healthy habits for the months ahead.

📅 Book your check-up today and take proactive steps towards your long-term wellbeing.
