WELCOME TO GEOFF'S COSTA BLANCA WALKS! http://www.costablancawalks.weebly.com Walks are from October to April. Often a car is needed to access the start.

Most are near Benidorm or Calpe, with a more northerly walk near Jalon or Gata once a month. There is a walk every Wednesday starting at 10.30 - these are usually the easier walks. On Saturdays we arrange longer walks with higher ascents so these tend to be moderate / hard. The aim of the walks is to enjoy the scenery and to make friends. The pace will be steady , with stops to admire the views, recover from climbs and examine features of interest. There will be a picnic lunch on the walk and a social drink at the end. The walks are of a moderate standard, divided into three grades:
^^ Easy Mod. 8km. 200m asc. 3hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^ Moderate 10 km 300m ascent 3.5 hrs ( incl. stops)
^^^^ Hard Mod. 12 km 400m ascent 4 hrs ( incl. stops )

There is no charge for the walks. If you want to show your appreciation then offer the leader a drink at the end. Many paths in Spain are rough and rocky , with steep sections with a loose surface requiring mountain boots with a thick sole , deep tread and ankle support. BOOTS MUST BE WORN FOR ALL WALKS! You will be required to sign in at the start to say that you walk at your own responsibility. YOU WALK AT YOUR OWN RISK. You need insurance. The Austrian Alpine Club UK for £36 a year covers rescue, medical and repatriation costs. I hope to see you on a walk soon, Geoff. SATURDAY 14TH MARCH - ALTEA LA VELLA BERNIA CIRCUIT - 11 KMS , 500 metres ascent , Harri

We start in Altea La Vella on the Calle La Colina. The walk takes us up the mozarabic paths to the picnic area on the Bernia - this takes care of most of the climbing.
Then along the forestry ridge to the small abandoned farm cottage ( where Geoff's walk turns around ).
Next we go down via the trail to the urbanisation near Altea Hills then along quiet road back to the cars ( with a short sharp up bit at the end !! )

To get to the start point go through Altea la Vella ( from N-332 side ) , as you leave Atea La Vella you will note Restaurante Mallol on the right , about 350 metres later
take the road on the right ( Via Pista which leads on to C. El Pinar , Carrer Margarida then Carrer La Rosella then right onto C. la Colina ) , there is parking on the dirt areas at the end of the tarmac. Be aware - there is another Via Pista also on the right and further along - you don't want that one.

WEDNESDAY 11TH MARCH - FONT MOLI BEHIND THE PUIG - 6KM , 300 METRES , APPROX 3 HRS. LYNDA

Meeting at Font del Moli , FINESTRAT car park at 10.30 and share cars to drive up to car park before Casa del Oficial.

From there a gradual ascent up to the mountain hut and on up to Col de Pouet.

From there some beautiful mountain views across to the ‘rocky gateway’, leading down to Collado Sacarest and back around zig zag donkey trail to Casa del Oficial.

About 6 kms with 300m ascent on good trails, taking around 3 hours, depending on rest stops. Mostly as shown on Geoff’s F9 map.

As you drive along the CV - 758 in Finestrat you will arrive at the crossroads with the Font de Moli signposted.

SATURDAY 7th MARCH - Calpe International - Hard - 10:30

A 12 Km walk from under the railway bridge near Lleus , a circular clockwise route taking in good paths and Calpe Airfield - now defunct. 500 Metres ascent.

We will meet just past the railway bridge which goes over the road off the roundabout ( signposted for Casa del Maco Hotel / Restaurant ) on the N332 - near Calpe - not the one with two petrol stations. The name of the road is Partida Pou Roig.

WEDNESDAY MARCH 4TH ALTEA LA VELLA - 7km , 100 m , 2H 30 - Geoff - 10:30

We follow lanes to an ERMITA, go through the old town with its church and calvari and on to a font and a woodland hill circuit.

Starts 10.30. From the N332 drive into Altea La Vella. Just before K21, opposite the Restaurante Meliton, turn left down a lane.
Look for a small dirt parking area on the right.

SATURDAY 28TH FEBRUARY - BARRANCO DE CANAL / PLA DE BLACONC from Embalse de Guadelest. 7 km , 3.75 hr , 400m asc. - ROLF

Take the CV735 from Callosa d'Ensarria to Guadelest. Some kilometres before Guadelest ( 15 minutes / 9 kms from Callosa )
take a RH junction with probably a sign for "Embalse" or "Dam", "Presa" or "Piscina".

Cross the dam and follow an unsurfaced road along the RH-side of the lake for quite some Kms ( 10 minutes / 3.7 Kms ) till you come to a T-junction.
Go right and park on the left side of the road.

The walk is a reasonable steep climb along the side of the Barranc de Les Mates to Pla de Blaconc with interesting views.
We then turn right below El Castelet (of Castell de Castells) and back along a forestry track.
The co-ordinates for the T-Junction after the dam are as follows :

WEDNESDAY 25TH FEBRUARY- ERMITA WOODS - 8km 100m 3hrs - Geoff
A woodland wander with interesting features and views. Starts 10.30.
Take the CV760 from Altea towards La Nucia. After the roundabout where the Alfaz road joins look for the signs El Captivador ERMITA Saint Vicente.
On arrival turn right past the boat to the large dirt car park.
The Ermita Sant Vicent at El Captivador, is signposted off the CV 760, after the roundabout joining the Alfaz ( CV 751 ) and Altea ( CV 760 ) roads, heading towards La Nucia.

SATURDAY 21ST FEBRUARY
We will do the walk that was postponed last Saturday.
Let us meet first on the river bank in Bolulla ( on the RHS as you enter Bolulla from Callosa side ) - 10.30
The idea is to possibly cut down the number of cars - being a Saturday and weather being good it may be a bit busy near the Scotsmans House.

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 18TH - POLOP- 6km, 100m, 2h30- Geoff We follow a narrow path with drops through a barranco to the main square.
( easier alternative route available ) then ascend the citadel with its fine views, ancient cemetery and bar.
We will meet at the carpark across the road from the Bar Sueno ( Wooden Hut ) - from the roundabout in Polop take the road towards Xirles ( CV 7621 )
At the turnoff for Xirles - turn right and you will see the carpark next to the cemetery. 10:30 as usual.

SATURDAY 14TH
There is an Orange weather warning for the Bolulla area - winds up to 90 Km/hr so we will postpone this walk till next week. Better safe than sorry !!

XARQUET - SACANYAR from Bolulla Castle 10.30 Saturday 14 TH February - Rolf - 8 km - 3,75 hr -400m asc. M/S

Take the CV 715 from Callosa d' Ensarria towards Taberna via Bolulla . After Bolulla and 1.2 km - at the first sharp right hand hairpin bend take the country road to the left.
Follow this steep and winding road for about 4 km, past a large house on the right ( nicknamed the Scotsman's House ) and park just over the ridge.

The walk is an anti-clockwise circuit of the Serra del Raco Roig. We walk up to the Aljub de Xarquet, pass the small arch and return over the Scanyar plain.
