Parking fine scam, be alert.
🚨‼️ BEWARE OF QR CODE PARKING & TRAFFIC FINE SCAMS ‼️🚨 by La Hita ITV Stations
More and more drivers are being targeted by a simple but dangerous scam, especially in tourist areas in Spain 🇪🇸.
📌 Criminals leave a fake “traffic fine” or “parking notice” sticker on your windscreen. It looks official and includes a **QR code** that invites you to scan it to see details or pay the fine.
⚠️ Once you scan it, you are redirected to a **fake website** that asks for your personal data, phone number, or bank details. In some cases, scammers send an SMS with a link that, if clicked, allows them to take control of your smartphone 📱 and even access your banking apps 💳.
👮 Local police in Tenerife and Madrid have already warned:
“If you find one of these documents on your car, do not scan the QR code — it is likely a fraud. Real fines are only sent by post or via the official DGT Electronic Traffic Service.”
It’s not the only risk — criminals are also placing fake QR stickers on electric car charging points ⚡ and parking meters 🅿️, covering the real codes.
✅ How to stay safe:
* Never scan QR codes from unknown or suspicious sources.
* Remember: official traffic fines in Spain only arrive by post or through the DGT system.
* If in doubt, check directly with your town hall, local police, or the official DGT website.
* If you scanned one and gave details, contact your bank immediately and report it to the police.
