Isolating the shoulder complex. Mindfulness.

As ridiculous as this video may seem, it feels so good to give the shoulders a role and it's mentally stimulating too!

Rolling the joints is a really lovely gentle way to help relubricate the joints, release tension, in any areas of the body, especially those that we are habituated to clench for long periods of time. That curled over the laptop or phone position.

Being able to isolate an area of the body is also a mindful practice, and takes focus.

If you practice dance or yoga, or any practice where you receive any type of cues for body movements, such as choreography, you will know that it's not just a physical labour, it requires full concentration. It's also a mental workout and a form of meditation.

This is probably why I love Vinyasa, every class requires you to move through the 'asanas' yoga poses in a different order. It gives you a break from whatever else is going on in your life. Full focus, getting into the

In Yoga cues can be very specific as to how to hold or move the body. Somebody cues you to raise your left arm and to extend your right leg, and you raise your left leg and extend your right arm 🤭 Like everything it takes practice and mindfulness to have that control
...but always remember the most important thing is to have fun with it 😉!

or for all you Sanskrit lovers 💚 quite a mouthful 😅

This has to be one of my favourites!Viparita means inverted and karani means action. Describing what this pose does so well; in essence it gently reverses the habitual actions of the body.

So after you've done a strong workout, or infact just generally being standing upright , or sitting at a desk all day, unless you happen to be an acrobat, perhaps, or tend to spend a lot of time upside down? gravity will mean that blood flow is habitually concentrated in the lower area of the body. This pose works by giving a gentle boost of blood circulation to the upper body.

It especially refreshes those hard working legs, helping release tension in the lower extremities, ankles, tired knees, and congested pelvic organs.
.and ladies, personally I find this a great ease period cramps 🌚
..and pain in the lower back..

But its true power is in teaching us that great results can ALSO come from doing less......

As my wonderful teacher said, 'we're living in a Yang world....'
