Don’t expect to look like the instagram posts 🤸‍♀️!!! Comparison is the thief of joy 😮‍💨

I keep having to tell myself as a student of yoga and a yoga teacher that it’s ‘Yoga Practice’ not ‘Yoga Perfect’ We most definitely bring our own practice to the mat however that looks for us. The postures ‘asanas’ are one tiny piece of the Yoga puzzle and they are all beautiful.

Just get on the mat, how you look there doesn’t matter a jot! 😊

My current read 📖

Could also be called “How to Heal” “How to Feel Amazing”

It’s not an easy, fun read as virtually every sentence is backed by research which is sited at the back of the book (and it takes up a good quarter). As an Aesthetic Nurse and Yoga Teacher I’ve always, always looked to robust scientific research to aid my decision making and this hits all the buttons.

Need to change up a few nutritional things, easy does it 😮‍💨 And up my Yoga game - going back to the hard stuff (Ashtanga) on Monday - pray for me kids 🙏😳 ❤️

Forgot to post my latest qualification 🤦🏼‍♀️ - Yoga Therapy for Anxiety.

Why undertake this when all Yoga is great for anxiety?

As I teach Yoga to women victims of DV they desperately need to learn skills to relax and trust their bodies and minds now that they are free from the situation.

As is true with all learning, there’s always nuance that can help improve your practice and teaching. All teachers are perpetual students, always. I came into Yoga from a place of high anxiety and it still rules my life if I let it. Having further skills to help balance and calm the nervous system is essential for me.

Next up….. I’m doing my Meditation Teachers Certificate! 🧘‍♀️

Happy Summer Solstice and International Yoga day ☀️ 🙏🏻❤️

What a wonderful day today in retreat.

We started with a wonderful 2 hour Yoga practice (not to blow my own trumpet but proud of finally nailing forward fold float to headstand 😬) during which a gorgeous massive thunderstorm rumbled and rained down.

More delicious food, some pranayama (breath work) in the afternoon. Then this evening we all gathered for a summer solstice ceremony and Yoga Nidra ☀️🤍 🤍🤍☀️

Arrived at this little piece of heaven yesterday. High up in the mountains, miles from everything.

Yoga retreat started with some chill time by the pool, delicious veggie paella, salad and gazpacho followed by a gorgeous Yoga Nidra practice before bed.

What is AHIMSA?

One of the eight limbs of Yoga is the Yama - these are ethical codes to live by and one of them speaks loudly to me….. Ahimsa.

This is all about Non-Violence, which is directed to ourselves, our fellow human, all living beings and the planet in general.

I’m a vegetarian and try my best to practice Ahimsa always. All living things deserve the same respect and love 🙏❤️

First Class done ✔️ The room was tiny and it was a tight squeeze but 7 brand new yogis came to practice with me. As it was a beautiful sunny day we took our practice outside ☀️ 🌳 🌸 🐦 We came into our bodies with breathwork and some gentle flows and finished with a sunny Savasana where I took them through a guided meditation.

So blessed to have the opportunity to share my passion with others. I only hope that they found some benefit and peace 🙏❤️

I have my first ever class teaching on Monday!!!! 😱

Excited and nervous in equal measure.

I’m busy perfecting the sequences and modifications and also working on the all important playlist. One of my favourite artists to listen to for relaxation is Jane Winther and I’ll be including some of her tracks, particularly for Savasana 😎

I’ve got a bit of an obsession going with Yoga books 😬

My latest and greatest that I’m about tackle is the Hatha Yoga Pradipika by Swami Muktibodhananda.

It’s been highly recommended and looks to cover everything Yoga related. Wish me luck!
