Pilates Centre

Pilates Centre The Pilates Centre What can exercise mean to your body and life? We are a studio focused on achieving more than a workout.

Our teachers will help you redefine your body and movement and change the quality of your workout inside and out. A workout based on the proper alignment of the body and precise execution of the exercise; the Pilates Method is an appropriate exercise discipline for everyone at any stage of physical fitness. The results are efficiency and ease in movement from a stronger, integrated body. Our studio is committed to the unique development and progress of each client’s goals, with instruction tailored to the specific needs of each individual. We are addicted to movement and you will be too.

What is the Method?

The Pilates Method is very diverse and includes a system of spring based apparatus. The apparatus provides assistance and resistance though the varying spring tensions. Some of the most challenging exercises are executed in the mat workout, which does not include any apparatus only the use of body weight and gravity. The Pilates Method is designed to be an individualized workout, designed by an instructor to the specific needs of the client’s body. The basic format that is followed includes a Reformer and Mat workout. Other apparatus including the Cadillac, high and small Barrels, Pedi Pole, Wunda, Electric, and Arm Chairs; are used to challenge and work specific weakness and imbalances. A well designed workout includes these apparatus.

How is it effective?

By repeating similar exercises in a variety of circumstances, the apparatus can increase the challenge of balance, flexibility, strength and coordination. Like any athlete, dancer, or musician the repetition of basic skills are an integral part of the workout. The benefit of one-on-one instruction is that an instructor will use additional exercises for the specific needs of a client’s body and function. Proper understanding and execution under the instructor’s guidance will result in the maximum benefit of the exercise. Private, semi-private and studio (class) sessions are available for pre-booking. Referrals from medical consultants are always welcome.

The Adductors: A Layered System

The adductors are four muscles connecting the pelvis to the femur. From the front, they overlap and are hard to distinguish, but from the back their structure becomes clearer.

The Adductor Magnus is the largest and most powerful, forming the main foundation. Beneath it sit three smaller muscles: Adductor Longus, Brevis, and Minimus. While they appear stacked from behind, they actually begin at a similar height on the femur and are layered at different depths.

Together, they create the core of inner-thigh strength and pelvic stability essential for controlled, effective movement in Pilates.

The holidays often leave the body feeling stiff, heavy, or out of rhythm. That’s normal.
What matters is how we return to movement.

January doesn’t need extremes or rushed workouts. It needs a smart reset one that restores strength, mobility, and control without strain.
Pilates offers a thoughtful way back. Precise, supported movement helps the body reconnect, rebuild stability, and move with confidence again.

This season, we pause to appreciate the body. The body that moves, breathes, adapts, and supports us every single day.

Pilates reminds us to listen, to move with intention, and to care for what carries us through life not just now, but as we age.

Gratitude in movement creates strength, resilience, and longevity.

✨ This season, we’re grateful for bodies that move, breathe, and adapt.

Did you know?

Pilates was originally developed to help injured soldiers regain strength and mobility during World War I. Joseph Pilates worked with bed-ridden soldiers, using springs attached to hospital beds to support movement, build strength, and encourage recovery. These early ideas later became the foundation of the Pilates equipment and method we practice today.

What began as a system for rehabilitation and resilience has grown into a timeless method that supports strong, balanced, and well-functioning bodies for life. At Pilates Centre, we honour these roots by teaching purposeful movement with precision, control, and care.

22/12/2025

Hamstring injuries are often linked to poor pelvic control, inefficient movement patterns, and muscles that are overworked rather than well supported. When the pelvis lacks stability, the hamstrings are forced to compensate, increasing the risk of strain and ongoing discomfort.

Pilates supports the rehabilitation process by focusing on restoring alignment, improving pelvic and trunk stability, and retraining efficient movement. Through controlled, purposeful exercises, the body learns to distribute load more effectively, reducing strain on the hamstrings and supporting long-term resilience.
