Blisters & Diabetes – Why They Deserve Extra Care

If you have diabetes, even a small blister on your foot can become a bigger problem if it’s not noticed or treated correctly. Reduced sensation or circulation can mean a blister goes unnoticed, and what starts as a small friction spot can quickly lead to infection or ulceration.

A few simple tips to protect your feet:
✨ Check your feet daily — look for redness, rubbing, or new marks.
✨ Make sure shoes fit well and don’t rub.
✨ Keep feet clean and dry, and change socks daily.
✨ Never burst a blister yourself — always seek advice.

If you do notice a blister or sore spot, it’s best to get it checked early. At Tupurna Foot Clinic, I can help protect the area, offload pressure, and monitor healing — and refer to a podiatrist or GP if needed.

👣 FHP vs Podiatrist — what’s the difference?

Both care for feet (and both love them!) 💙 — but work at different levels of care.

As a Foot Health Practitioner (FHP), I’m fully trained and qualified to deliver professional foot health care and maintenance. My role focuses on helping you stay comfortable, mobile, and confident in your feet by treating and managing common issues such as:

🦶 Corns & calluses
🦶 Verrucas
🦶 Fungal toenails
🦶 Toenail cutting & care
🦶 Toenail reconstruction
🦶 Diabetic foot care & advice

FHPs, like myself, hold an accredited diploma qualification through a university, while Podiatrists complete a Bachelor of Science degree, enabling them to diagnose and treat more complex medical conditions of the foot and lower limb.

So, while we both care passionately about feet, we simply work at different levels of practice.

👣 Dry skin or fungal infection? They might look similar, but they’re not the same!

💧 Dry skin = rough, tight, or flaky on both feet, improves with moisturiser.
🦠 Fungal infection = itchy, peeling, or smelly (often starts between the toes) — needs antifungal treatment, not cream!

If your “dry skin” keeps coming back or itches, it’s time to get it checked. Healthy feet start with the right diagnosis. 🌿🦶
