Elbow replacement is a procedure that I perform regularly with excellent results. The majority of patients experience an improved quality of life after total elbow replacement surgery.

Before considering the surgery, many patients want to know how long the elbow replacement will last. We can expect it to last about 10 years. After this period, the components may loosen up and need to be replaced. A revision arthroplasty can be performed, though results are not as good as a primary replacement.

Another frequent question is about the rules & limitations imposed on the patient’s activity after this type of surgery.

The main limitation after elbow replacement is a lifelong lifting restriction of not more than 2 to 3 kg; therefore, surgery is reserved for older adults who do not need to lift heavy items.

În cadrul Congresului , Dr. Mihai Tudor Gavrilă a vorbit despre importanța reală a unui astfel de eveniment pentru comunitatea ortopedică și pentru evoluția chirurgiei umărului și cotului în România.

Domnul doctor a subliniat modul în care structura congresului, cu sesiuni practice, discuții aplicate și dezbateri deschise, creează un mediu ideal pentru schimbul de experiență și actualizarea cunoștințelor. Interacțiunea directă dintre specialiști, prezentările de cazuri și abordările moderne discutate contribuie semnificativ la îmbunătățirea practicii clinice de zi cu zi.

During this year’s congress, I had the pleasure of speaking with Prof. Dr. Merter Özenci about the future of shoulder surgery and the remarkable progress expected in the next five years.

Prof. Özenci emphasised how innovation, collaboration, and continuous education will continue to redefine the standards of shoulder surgery, offering patients faster recovery, less invasive procedures, and more predictable outcomes.

It was an honour to have him among the distinguished faculty of , contributing his expertise and forward-looking perspective on the evolution of our field.

Un moment special al Congresului a fost interviul cu domnul Profesor Doctor Ștefan Cristea, unul dintre membrii fondatori ai Societății Române de Umăr și Cot și un reper al ortopediei românești.

Domnul Profesor a vorbit despre onoarea de a face parte din această societate încă de la început și despre bucuria de a vedea, an de an, cm generații diferite de medici – de la tinerii rezidenți până la experții consacrați – contribuie împreună la dezvoltarea chirurgiei umărului și cotului în România.

Faptul că această comunitate reunește colegi din toate etapele profesionale, într-un spirit de respect, colaborare și învățare continuă, este deja o realizare remarcabilă a .

Congresul s-a încheiat cu două zile pline de prezentări, discuții valoroase și întâlniri între colegi care împărtășesc aceeași pasiune pentru chirurgia umărului și cotului.

A fost o ediție care a confirmat maturitatea și prestigiul Societății Române de Umăr și Cot, prin numărul impresionant de participanți și calitatea lucrărilor prezentate. Ne bucurăm să vedem cum, an de an, comunitatea noastră medicală crește și continuă să promoveze colaborarea și inovația în ortopedie.
