Just back home after caring for my dad. My body has opinions.
This month's newsletter is about exhaustion, rest, and why nobody benefits from us running on empty. (Except the empire, obviously.)

**Coming Back Slowly: On Caregiving, Transitions, and the Medicine of Going Slower**

"You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves." —Mary Oliver

Hello dear ones,

I haven't been as active lately, and I want to share why.

I've been caring for my dad through three hospital stays, two surgeries, and many uncertain days. Being away from my routines in Italy, it took everything out of me. I'm grateful for the foundation that Somatic Experiencing has given me, sometimes I see my life as "before SE" and "after SE."

I'm now slowly returning to work. Slowly, on purpose.

I'm opening space again for **one-on-one online sessions**, especially for **women in midlife** who navigate a time that's both tender and potent, confusing and revealing.

My work is rooted in the body: gentle nervous-system support, voice work, tapping (EFT), and simple rituals to help the body digest change and the psyche orient. I've found particular resonance working with women in perimenopause and menopause, not because this time needs fixing, but because it asks for a different pace, a different kind of listening.

I also work with **therapists and helpers** who want body-based support or to reconnect with their voice, people who hold others and need a place where they don't have to hold it all together.

What helped me most during this difficult time? Being as gentle as possible with myself and focusing on what felt good, at ease, and comfortable in my body.

**Try this now:** Notice a small island of safety or pleasure in your body, perhaps the warmth in your feet, the sun on your face, or the touch of your hand. Simply rest there for a moment.

Thank you for being here. If you know someone who might benefit from this work, please share.

This painting was made for me by my dear friend Simona Taylor, who is an incredible visionary and talented artist, as you can see.

It was created from a photograph, and Simona and I worked together around the elements I wanted to bring into the painting.

I am really touched by Simona's creation and I am happy to have the painting in my room, as a prayer, blessing and invocation.

If you’d like a photograph transformed into a painting, are interested in this kind of shamanic art, or are looking for a meaningful gift, feel free to get in touch with her.

P.S. The painting is inspired by Lizzie Woolfenden photography (which you can see in my profile's picture)

Shared with permission.

I am sharing this reflection because it speaks to a kind of healing that is slow, gentle, subtle, and guided by safety rather than intensity or peak experiences.
Many people worry that somatic work will be overwhelming or emotionally explosive. This experience describes something very different.
I am an advocate for less is more, small steps, and being as kind as we can towards ourselves.
So, below are the words of somebody who recently worked with me:

'Somatic experiencing has been transformative for me. I put that down to Laura’s skills and guidance in our sessions. Her warmth, understanding and clear explanations when exploring sensation in my body have been immensely helpful for me during a truly terrible time in my life.

I came to Laura whilst suffering with severe chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) symptoms, triggered from long covid. I also had a lot of external stressors at the time - including extreme financial instability - which was making it hard for me to find safety in my body. I had some knowledge of somatic nervous system regulation practices but had never explored somatic experiencing or connecting to my historical trauma through the body.

Laura created a safe container for me to share and explore what was happening in my body, and even over Zoom I could tell immediately that she was someone I would feel comfortable working with. She went at my pace and when I felt overwhelmed by my body’s response in one session, we slowed right down.
This meant I never had any major releases of emotion or trauma - which is what I had preconceived to expect. Instead, my healing was much more gentle and quiet, but no less transformative. This was a pleasant surprise for me as I had been slightly apprehensive about having big emotional releases.

I noticed my progression and healing mainly outside of sessions, when I was faced with situations in my day to day life. Things that had previously triggered old wounds and reactions were now much easier to deal with - so much so I barely noticed them. I found clarity and calm when met with people and events that would have previously overwhelmed me and led to shut down. I also feel that my sessions with Laura were a major contributor to my ongoing recovery from long covid and CFS.

I would recommend Laura to anyone looking for supportive, gentle guidance and healing through somatic experiencing. For me it has been one of the most healing modalities I've ever experienced and was truly life changing.' (Claire B.)

These past two and a half months caring for my dad reminded me how important it is to move slowly and stay connected to our bodies.
I just sent out a newsletter sharing a bit about my experience, my work with midlife women and helpers and some little tips about self-care.
If you’d like to read it, the link is in the first comment.

I wrote this article some time ago about the things we all end up having to let go of in midlife.
For me, it was realising how often I held myself small , trying to be “nice,” trying not to bother anyone, trying to do everything perfectly.
I see so many women carry that too. And many of us pay a price when we do it, from anxiety to physical symptoms, we need to pay attention to the body's signals.
I put the link to the article in the first comment if you want to read it. And if you do, I would love to hear from you.

Hey dear ones 🌿
I wanted to share again an article I wrote a little while ago, in case some of you haven’t seen it yet: Your Body Is Your Oracle.
https://medium.com//your-body-is-your-oracle-444dd51d80eb?source=friends_link&sk=816debf10299c20b8bc4b62e225eb847

It’s about tuning in to your body, noticing the messages it’s sending, and trusting that it knows what you need. Our bodies are amazing guides, and sometimes we just need to slow down and listen to their intelligence and messages.

If you read it before, maybe it’s a good reminder today. And if you haven’t, I hope it gives you a little nudge to connect with yourself in a kind, curious way.

With love, always,
xoxo

✨I just returned from the first module of my third year of Somatic Experiencing® training, and I’m feeling deeply fulfilled by this path, both personally and professionally ✨

💐 If you’re curious, have questions, or know someone who could benefit from this work, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to share more 😊

💫 I often tell my friends, teachers, and colleagues that I now speak about life before SE… and life after SE. It’s one of the practices that has made the biggest difference in my life, especially in dark moments. 🌙

✨ As many of you know, I’ve been supporting women over the last few years who want to rewrite the old narrative around midlife and menopause, helping them embrace this life threshold in a more joyful, conscious, and empowering way 🌿

💥 Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a transformative, body-based approach to renegotiating trauma and balancing the nervous system

🌿 Alongside SE, I’m also integrating voice work and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) into my practice 🎶💫

🍓 I have a few spots available for those who are interested, feel free to get in touch.
Thank you! 💛

Another morning as a clown.
In just a couple of days, I'll be heading back to Spain.

For the first time in over 20 years, I've built a connection with meaningful activities here in Italy, where my roots are. So when I return, I'll have something to look forward to—putting on the red nose in hospitals, associations with elders, and organizations supporting people with different abilities.

Right now, what matters most is nurturing what brings me joy. xx

🚨 URGENT: Tabitha Needs Help to Keep Her Home 🚨
We’re halfway to the goal, but time is running out.

Tabitha has been bedridden for months, battling PTSD, severe exhaustion, and now a persistent eye infection that needs medical attention. She can’t work right now, and I’m deeply worried she might lose her home.

She has no family to turn to, and without support, she could end up homeless. What she needs most is stability and time to heal—but she can’t do it alone.
We just need one final push! If you can help, even a small amount makes a difference. If you can’t donate, please share this...reaching the right people could change everything for her.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
