Breath Wellness, an Essential Care

We breathe using three different ”systems”. Diaphragm (always), trunk (everyday situations) and neck/throat (stress). Sometimes our limited movement in the joints in our thoracic spine and the ones between vertebrae and ribs causes a limitation also in our breathing. If so, our brain will instantly (breathing is really, really important for our survival eh?!) start using the muscles on the neck and throat to lift the first ribs, just to get a little more air into the lungs (like back on the savanna when we were chased by the lion) and voila! we can keep going. But (important now) that also means the brain and nervous system will now constantly be in a state of stress (long term stress is as we all know not good). If, on the other hand, the spine and trunk can have free movement, we can have the wonderful benefits of a system in good balance.

So try this as an every day well being exercise

1) Move your arms and shoulders as if you were a swimmer/boxer warming up for 30 seconds

2) Do cat & cow movements with your spine/trunk for 30 seconds

3) Breathe in deep, fill your lungs with air as if they were big balloons and keep it in for a couple of seconds, breathe out with a sigh and really empty the lungs. Repeat 3 times.

As simple as it may seem, this works. We hope you find it useful.

Journeys
Our planet offers so many breathtaking places to walk through with reverence, so many cultures to gently discover and participate in, and so many scents and flavors to experience. Only when you are there, feeling a place’s vibrations, sensing it’s history, and taking it in with all your senses, can you, perhaps with a little luck, understand what makes that place unique.

You become part of something; you become something larger than yourself. In your smallness, you grow a little and gain a deeper appreciation for worlds beyond your own. Horizons broaden and perspectives deepen. Empathy finds more room. We love our journeys, they are transformative.

Naturally, that love creates tensions for us, and we must consider why and how we do them. We all leave footprints, and it is both a collective and personal responsibility to care for Mother Earth.

We think a lot about this when choosing how and where to go; If perfection is impossible, we can at least do our best. To know more about what journeys we share in the coming future, please feel welcome to read our newsletter.

Spiritual health can begin in the breath

Like in yoga, balance doesn’t always start with movement —sometimes it starts with noticing the inhale, and allowing the exhale to land a little deeper.

In the breath, we may find grounding.
A quiet sense of being here.
More at ease with ourselves.

From that place, something often shifts.
We might hear the world more clearly — the rhythm of the city, the pulse of nature,
the subtle presence of the people around us
on the bus, in the street, in passing moments.

When we slow down enough to breathe,
we may also begin to sense where we belong.
Our place.
Our meaning.
Not as something to figure out —
but something to feel, to be.

Balance in spiritual health doesn’t require answers.
Sometimes, it simply asks us to listen.
And to begin… with the next breath.

Since September 2025 we are working with Project Existentiell Hälsa, Spiritual Health, at the Swedish School Mallorca. This is a three year long mission with the aim to bring more awareness about and higher quality in spiritual wellbeing together with the students and staff at the school.

A reflection time needed to be one with one’s mission. A time fold to come back to that what matters, to that what makes us humans and humane. Slowing down, listening inwardly, tuning in. Creating space, extending time, taking part and being part.

An act to be inspired and more in tune; a part of the practice. Let us all cultivate time-folds for bishop time!

We are for a couple of days celebrating the holiday with friends and family up North and the snow is coming down big time blessing us with it’s brightness. To us the change from one year to another has always been a very good reason to reflect and think about who and what matters to us.

The annual Sankalpa Yoga & Breathwork Class is a beautiful way of doing this and creates a space for that solemn moment. So with that we invite you to join us 💫
