Yesterday, Mighty Thinkers was an exciting, hands-on exploration of bridges, which led into a bridge-building competition. The kids had a fantastic time and were especially talkative throughout the program. They asked lots of thoughtful questions and stayed fully engaged during the activities. As they worked together, many of the children made new friends, and it was wonderful to see those connections begin to form. The parents were just as excited, enjoying the opportunity to watch new friendships blossom. During the competition, everyone gathered around eagerly to see how much weight each bridge could hold, cheering each other on and celebrating their designs.

Trivia Night with the crew of USS Paul Ignatius was one for the books!
We spent the evening with the duty section diving into three fun-filled rounds — Marvel movie trivia, number trivia, and “Guess That Song.” From superhero super-fans to music masters, the competition was fierce and the laughs were nonstop.
Most importantly, it was an incredible morale boost for some truly hardworking sailors. They give so much of their time and energy in service to our country, and they deserve every moment of fun, connection, and appreciation. So grateful to share nights like these with such an outstanding crew!

Yesterday at Sailor Sunrise with the USS Oscar Austin, USO Rota had the honor of serving those who serve us. We welcomed sailors with fresh local pastries, warm cookie butter coffee, and—thanks to the incredible support of the American Red Cross, Rota, Spain—some four-legged friends who delivered much-needed comfort and smiles.
What started as a simple morning gathering quickly turned into something much more meaningful. Between sweet treats, hot coffee, and tail wags, stress melted away and spirits lifted. Sailors who have been working tirelessly were able to pause, laugh, connect, and enjoy a moment of home and normalcy.
The gratitude, the smiles, and the visible boost in morale said it all—sometimes it’s the smallest gestures that make the biggest impact. We’re proud to stand beside our service members and to help make their day brighter, their load lighter, and their mission stronger.

For Valentines Day, USO Rota spread a little extra sweetness by handing out homemade candy bags to active-duty sailors. The thoughtful treats were a simple but heartfelt way to boost morale, reminding service members that their dedication and sacrifice are deeply appreciated. Each bag symbolized care, support, and a touch of home—bringing smiles and a sense of connection to those who serve.

Valentine’s Day can be joyful, but for military families, it’s often a reminder of time spent apart.
This year at USO Rota, our center became a space for connection in the middle of that reality.
Early in the morning, a father walked in holding the tiny hand of his two-year-old daughter. Her mom was stationed on a ship, facing a demanding week of inspections. Together, they picked out flowers and carefully built a small bouquet. The plan being to surprise Mom with it after her long week, a simple reminder waiting at home that she was loved and missed. Soon after, several spouses gathered—each with a loved one underway, each navigating their own version of separation.
As they arranged flowers together, the room filled with conversation and shared understanding. What started as a simple activity turned into something more meaningful: a chance to pause, connect, and support one another.
One spouse shared that her husband had just learned his deployment would be extended. “I loved this idea,” she said. “He’s away, and I know there won’t be flowers this year, but now I have a little bit of sunshine to add to my house and think of him.”
By the end of the day, the bouquets became more than flowers. They were reminders that even across oceans, love remains. They were symbols of resilience, hope, and the strength found in community.

Today’s Coffee Connections was such a wonderful time of creativity and connection! Military spouses gathered together to decorate candlesticks, and while the crafts were beautiful, the conversations were even brighter. Everyone shared where they’re from, talked about volunteer opportunities, and enjoyed getting to know one another. By the end of the event, numbers were exchanged and new friendships were already forming.
Coffee Connections is all about building community, and today was a beautiful reminder of how special this group truly is. We can’t wait to see you at the next one! ☕💬

Congratulations to our Volunteer of the Month, Sam Dauphin! Sam is such a hard worker and brings positivity to every single shift. No matter the task, he tackles it efficiently and happily, always with a smile. We especially appreciate that while serving on active duty, he still finds the time and energy to volunteer after a long, strenuous work day. We are so lucky to have him on our team and truly appreciate everything he does. Thank you, Sam!

USO Rota

The USO has kept our military men and women connected to family, home and country throughout their time of service – no matter where, how long, or under what conditions they serve. It was founded in preparation for World War II by national leaders who understood that maintaining high morale in a fighting force is vital to a nation’s military success. Over time, the USO has become the vital bridge between Americans and their military service members.

The USO is a family of volunteers, sustained by the charitable contributions of millions of generous Americans. We are united in our commitment to support America’s service members by keeping them connected to the people, places and things they love. We do this through countless acts of caring, comfort, connection and support. Our work is America’s most powerful expression of gratitude to the men and women who secure our nation’s freedoms.
