Yesterday was a powerful reminder of why we gather to celebrate service. During the Sailor of the Quarter Recognition Event, we had the honor of recognizing some of our Navy and Air Force’s finest—men and women whose dedication and professionalism make a lasting impact every day.
Base Commander Captain Charles Chmielak and Base Command Master Chief Donald Alvarado joined fellow military leaders to stand alongside these exceptional sailors and airmen as their achievements were brought to light. Each story shared reflected long hours, unwavering commitment, and pride in service.
Service members from commands across the installation were recognized for their excellence, receiving plaques and USAA challenge coins as a small token of appreciation for the immense work they do. The ceremony offered an inspiring glimpse into each command’s mission and the remarkable accomplishments made possible by these outstanding individuals.
Moments like these remind us that behind every uniform is a story worth honoring.

USO Rota was excited to support families who have recently PCSed to Rota by hosting a Bingo Night at the Navy Lodge. With a great turnout and some awesome prizes, the event was a fun and welcoming way to bring families together, meet new people, and connect with others who are also new to the community. We loved helping new friendships get started!

On a chilly day at the port, USO Rota brought a little warmth to the heart of operations with a hot chocolate bar for our Port Operations team. Between long hours, tight timelines, and the constant demands of fleet readiness, these professionals rarely slow down—but for a brief moment, they did. The Port Operations team plays a critical role in ensuring ships are ready, missions stay on track, and our fleet remains strong. Their dedication behind the scenes directly supports our service members and our country. We were proud to offer a moment of comfort and appreciation to those who give so much every day—and grateful for the impact they make long after the cocoa is gone.

USO Rota

The USO has kept our military men and women connected to family, home and country throughout their time of service – no matter where, how long, or under what conditions they serve. It was founded in preparation for World War II by national leaders who understood that maintaining high morale in a fighting force is vital to a nation’s military success. Over time, the USO has become the vital bridge between Americans and their military service members.

The USO is a family of volunteers, sustained by the charitable contributions of millions of generous Americans. We are united in our commitment to support America’s service members by keeping them connected to the people, places and things they love. We do this through countless acts of caring, comfort, connection and support. Our work is America’s most powerful expression of gratitude to the men and women who secure our nation’s freedoms.
