Qualifications

BA degree in Accounting, Management from a recognized university;

Purpose of the job

Job Description

Position Summary

The Accountant will ensure smooth running of the finance and accounting systems within the project on a day-to-day basis, process payments for internal staff and external clients, handle all tax payments (income, pension, withholding) with the Ministry of Revenue and Customs, extract financial information from the system whenever needed, prepare payroll and other payments as needed. The Operations, Admin and Finance Manager will supervise the Project Accountant.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Project Accountant will perform the following duties:

Plan and administer accounting system and prepare financial reports for project management. Ensure financial reports are sent to TMG/HQ monthly.
Work with COP, DCOP, and OAFM to plan and develop project budget, monitor, and analyze expenditure pipeline analyses.
Review invoices, payment requests, prepare payment vouchers and issues cheques/transfer letter or RTGS and maintain appropriate filing system for financial records.
Review payment and tax information for vendor/consultant contract agreements and ensure tax related articles are included appropriately.
Settle payments to vendors, consultants, and staff in a timely manner after ensuring the payment reports and timesheets are compliant with policies and procedures.
Supervises and reviews petty cash disbursement to ensure accurate record keeping.
Allocate account codes consistent with the Project Chart of Accounts and Local Operating Budget. Enter/post transactions into QuickBooks Accounting software and prepare monthly reconciliation statement on bank accounts and advances.
Prepare periodic funds transfer request to TMG/HQ
Support the OAFM in tracking and reviewing project expenditures and financial reports.
Analyze expenditure and income (funds received) to prepare monthly pipeline analysis to present to the COP and TMG/HQ
Liaise with bank, contractors, vendors concerning payments related information
Any other duties assigned.
Project Duration: Until August 2023

Job Requirements

Qualification Required

BA degree in Accounting and 5 years of relevant work experience in the area
Working experience with international donor or USAID funded projects is preferred
Required Skills

Proficiency with spreadsheet, word processing, and database applications and QuickBooks Accounting Software.
Strong Finance, Accounting and Management and analytical skills
Excellent Financial Management and problem-solving skills
Familiar with USG and USAID regulations, and experience in managing financial and procurement systems.
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
