Day of the Girl Child
we celebrate the power, potential, and promise of every girl.

At Women’s Health Association of Ethiopia (WHAE), we work to ensure that girls grow up healthy, educated, and empowered and free from violence and harmful practices.

WHAE is committed to championing the right of disadvantaged girls, those with limited access to safe spaces and city amenities, to play. Every girl deserves the freedom, joy, and opportunity
that come with both empowerment and play.

🌍 World Mental Health Day | October 10 🕊️

At Women’s Health Association of Ethiopia (WHAE), we believe that peace is not only a social and political goal but a fundamental health issue. Mental health cannot thrive in conditions of conflict and violence.

Through our monthly health education sessions among local unit women (groups of women) and our quarterly male engagement trainings, we promote positive mental health, emotional well-being and marital harmony. By promoting dialogue, empathy, ane understanding, we help build safer, more supportive environments, where women and communities can heal and grow.

Through our Peace for Health campaigns across the regions we operate in, we advocate for sustainable peace as a pathway to lasting mental, physical, and social well-being.
Because when peace thrives, mental health can too.

Women’s Health Association of Ethiopia (WHAE) has been working with young girls over the past six years and has empowered girls through reproductive health education, computer and personal skills development. It incorporated a Sisterhood module to encourage young girls to bond and face the challenges they encounter as youth. One of the most important aspects of WHAE’s Girls Mentorship Program is honoring the Right to Play for girls and having them spend time playing and bonding.

For the past six years, Women’s Health Association of Ethiopia (WHAE) has been actively working to empower young girls through its comprehensive Girls Mentorship Program. The initiative focuses on reproductive health education, computer literacy, and personal skills development to equip girls with the knowledge and tools they need to lead confident and healthy lives.

A unique component of the program is the Sisterhood Module, which fosters a strong sense of community among participants. This module encourages girls to support one another and face life’s challenges together, creating a safe and uplifting space for personal growth.

WHAE also champions the Right to Play, recognizing the importance of recreation in the development and well-being of young girls. Through structured playtime and group bonding activities, the program ensures that girls have the opportunity to relax, connect, and thrive in a supportive environment.
