On January 10th at 12:00 PM, Brave Hearts Ethiopia will be hosting our Annual Academic Achievement Award Ceremony, a day dedicated to celebrating the resilience, discipline, and determination of the children and youth we serve.

This is more than an award day.
It is a moment to recognize after school studying, consistent attendance, personal breakthroughs, and the quiet courage it takes to keep believing in one’s future, even when the journey isn’t easy.

Every certificate represents a story.
Every smile represents hope.
Every child honored represents what is possible when care, opportunity, and commitment come together.

We are proud of our learners and grateful to our supporters. We can’t wait to celebrate together. 💛

Meet Mekedes
A focused, curious learner who keeps growing. ✨

Through her regular attendance in our after-school tutorial program, Mekedes is strengthening her academic skills and preparing with confidence for her 8th grade regional exams. Her hard work brings her one step closer to her dream of becoming a scientist.

She actively participates in our group guidance sessions, where she’s building healthy friendships, developing public speaking skills, and learning how to stand strong against negative peer pressure.

Mathias is a 9th Grade student who is truly beginning to shine. Since joining Brave Hearts Ethiopia, he has shown strong academic growth, earning encouraging results in his first-semester exams.

Through tutorial support at our drop-in centre, along with group guidance and individual sessions, Mathias has strengthened his focus, confidence, and positive engagement in learning.

His journey is a powerful reminder that consistent, holistic support helps children build on their strengths, believe in themselves, and unlock their full potential.

This Saturday, we came together to reflect on our students’ first-semester results and we’re so proud of their efforts and achievements. Many of our children performed strongly across most subjects, a true reflection of their hard work, resilience, and commitment to learning.

Guided by each child’s learning needs, we revised our tutorial schedule to provide more targeted support. These adjustments will strengthen understanding and help every child continue to grow and succeed across all subjects.

Strong communities build strong futures.

We recently held a successful meeting with the Tiret Lefera Cooperative, an income-generating initiative established by BHE to support caregivers and guardians of the children in our program.

During the meeting, members reflected on the cooperative’s progress, reviewed and endorsed its audit outcomes, and confirmed the plans and activities for the year ahead. A key highlight was the collective decision to strengthen the cooperative’s loan system, enabling members to access greater support to grow their small businesses and improve household stability.

The guardians also re-elected their leadership committee and shared heartfelt appreciation for BHE’s ongoing commitment to empowering families through sustainable economic opportunities.

Meet Muna, One of Our Rising Stars!

Muna is a bright and hardworking 6th grade student who lives with her mother and two younger brothers.

Before joining the Brave Hearts Holistic Support Program, Muna struggled to access school materials and found it difficult to keep up in class.

Today, with the educational support, school resources, and family assistance she receives through our program, Muna’s academic performance has improved significantly. Her mother also receives support to fulfill Muna’s basic needs at home.

Muna is known for her kindness, good behaviour, and positive attitude qualities that inspire her peers every day. Her dream is to become a medical doctor, and we are incredibly proud to stand beside her as she works toward that future. 💛✨

When Merry first joined our program, she doubted her worth and often followed where others led.

Everything changed when she began attending our Saturday Youth Sessions. The safe space, open conversations with peers, and support of our social workers helped her see her own value for the first time.

Today, Merry is confident, focused, and proud of who she’s becoming.

Our Story - Changing Lives

Established in 2014, Brave Hearts Ethiopia is an NGO working to empower and improve the lives of orphan and vulnerable children (OVC), youth and their guardians in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. BHE supports families through a holistic care model including access to quality education, adequate nutrition, health care, counseling, training, micro finance and psychosocial support. These children and youth have often found themselves facing unthinkable situations and appalling hardships. Their guardians are usually their elderly grandparents or single mothers living in poverty that struggle to provide basic needs for the children under their care and themselves.

Vulnerable children and youth often thrive and succeed when provided with the opportunities they missed. BHE focuses on providing the children in the program access to quality education including covering school fees, providing them with school materials, uniforms and bags. The children receive tutorial lessons at the BHE drop in center along with after school healthy meals to re-energize for studying. At the drop in center, children and youth also are provided guidance and counseling as well as life skills training to support their psychosocial development.

BHE also works to ensure the child or youth has a secure and loving home to live in. We provide micro finance support through a revolving fund and training for guardians that can establish, run and grow their small business for sustainable livelihoods.

At BHE, we believe every child deserves full access to opportunities. BHE supports children with special needs have access to education and other services.
