Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) EPHA is an association of public health professionals of varying categories and levels of training.

to promotes better health services to the public and high professional standards through advocacy, professional competence, relevant policies, and effective networking. EPHA is committed to improve the health and living status of the people of Ethiopia through the dedicated and active involvement of the organization and its members and through collaboration with stakeholders. EPHA members are distributed all over the country occupying positions at different levels of health care and management from woreda (district) health office and health facilities to the level of a minister. EPHA members are also in private, government and non-government organizations as are its Executive Board members EPHA is among the strongest professional associations in Ethiopia with a current membership of more than 8600. EPHA has its head quarter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and chapters in different regions of the country. The Association is working closely with its partners and collaborators to facilitate and accelerate activities on the country’s priority public health issues and has over 30 years of experience and success in implementing national as well as continental projects.. The High Impact Leadership Program for Health graduation ceremony was held today, 28 February 2026, at Rori Hotel in Hawassa, Sidama Regional State.

A total of 305 trainees from five regions across Ethiopia, including 75 participants from Sidama Regional State, completed the six-month high-impact leadership training. The program was implemented under the Integrated Health Systems Strengthening (IHSS) Project, which focuses on improving healthcare accessibility and quality.

The training was organized by the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Amref Health Africa. The initiative aimed to strengthen leadership capacity at middle and lower levels of the health system.

The graduation ceremony marked the completion of the first round of the effective health leadership training program, conducted jointly by EPHA, the Ministry of Health, and Amref Health Africa.

Speaking at the event, State Minister H.E. Sahrella Andellahi emphasized that strong health sector leadership equipped with knowledge and skills is essential to ensuring quality and accessible health services for all and addressing community health challenges. The State Minister also recognized EPHA for its ongoing efforts to improve health leadership, management, and administrative systems through such training programs.

Dr. Salamwit Mengesha, Head of the Sidama Regional Health Bureau, congratulated the graduates and noted that the effective health leadership training is designed to enhance leadership capacity, empower women to assume leadership positions, and strengthen accountability systems within the health sector.

II. Job Purpose

III. Key Responsibilities

1. Coordination and Collaboration:

Collaborate with Amref Regional team to liaise with respective RHBs on trainers and high impact leadership (HIL) trainee’s selection

2. National Leadership Training Plan
Lead development of the national scale-up plan for HIL training including coaching and mentorship session
Translate project targets into annual and quarterly operational plans.
Ensure alignment of HIL training with PHC reform agendas, governance strengthening initiatives, and HRH priorities.
Support harmonization of leadership initiatives across regions.

3. Coordination of Leadership Training Implementation
Coordinate nationwide rollout of:
LHigh-Impact Leadership (HIL) training
Coordinate training schedules across regions and woredas.
Coordinate with CPD centers to secure training venue and facilitate the training
Work closely with AMREF, MoH, RHBs, and EPHA chapters to ensure smooth, timely, and high-quality implementation.
4. Technical Oversight and Quality assurance
Provide technical oversight to ensure training quality, consistency, and adherence to approved curricula.
Review, adapt, and contextualize training materials, tools, and facilitation guides.
Ensure integration of:
Accountability for health
Gender-intentional leadership
Equity in leadership decisions
Supervise trainers, facilitators, and mentors.
Post-training follow-up, mentorship and application
Review HIL training workshops on a daily basis and provide real-time feedback.
Ensure post training coaching, mentoring, and follow-up mechanisms are implemented.

The field mission was conducted to strengthen implementation oversight of the RSWITCH (UNICEF) Project in Dire Dawa and Kalead from 20 to 29 January 2026.
The mission aimed to review implementation progress and challenges at the regional, woreda, and facility levels; assess SAM screening, referral, treatment, and post-exit follow-up practices; evaluate the functionality of Family MUAC, AFD engagement, and community platforms and provide on-site mentoring and technical support.
Professor Tefera Belachew PI of the project said the field mission confirmed that RSWITCH is well-rooted and trusted at community level.
He further remarked that addressing the identified operational and engagement gaps will significantly enhance impact, equity and sustainability.
