Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) EPHA is an association of public health professionals of varying categories and levels of training.

to promotes better health services to the public and high professional standards through advocacy, professional competence, relevant policies, and effective networking. EPHA is committed to improve the health and living status of the people of Ethiopia through the dedicated and active involvement of the organization and its members and through collaboration with stakeholders. EPHA members are distributed all over the country occupying positions at different levels of health care and management from woreda (district) health office and health facilities to the level of a minister. EPHA members are also in private, government and non-government organizations as are its Executive Board members EPHA is among the strongest professional associations in Ethiopia with a current membership of more than 8600. EPHA has its head quarter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and chapters in different regions of the country. The Association is working closely with its partners and collaborators to facilitate and accelerate activities on the country’s priority public health issues and has over 30 years of experience and success in implementing national as well as continental projects.. EPHA has good working relationship with governmental and non-governmental organizations, and universities within the country and abroad.

56 trainees who completed the six-month Effective Health Leadership Training course graduated today, 26 December 2025, in Afar, Semera.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Amref Health Africa, EPHA held the training in three Afar region woredas.

Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister H.E. Seharela Aabdulahi said health leadership has a crucial role to play in building a sustainable and resilient health system.

She further said this kind of training is a great opportunity to learn about the health sectors and to implement the lessons learned properly.

Mr. Yasin Habib, head of the Afar regional health bureau, noted that the trainees have the potential to become leaders of the health facilities in the future.

He affirmed that the trainees have an assignment to apply the knowledge they gained from the training.

Dr. Alemayehu Mekonnen Executive Director of EPHA, in his keynote address remarked that EPHA has played a vital role in enhancing Ethiopia's public health system for over 36 years.

He said in this course EPHA trained 56 frontline healthcare leaders, achieving notable completion rates.

"EPHA, supported by AMREF Health Africa and the Ministry of Health, remains dedicated to universal health coverage." He added,

The Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA), in collaboration with the East Bale Zone Health Office, is holding its annual performance review meeting focused on universal access and addressing disparities in family planning uptake in Ethiopia.

The project is supported by the Gidabo Policy Advocacy Center and is implemented across four woredas, where EPHA provides technical and programmatic support to 10 health centers and 40 health posts.

The meeting is taking place from December 23–24 in Ginnir Town, East Bale Zone, and is attended by a total of 75 participants representing all supported woredas and health facilities working in partnership with EPHA.

The High Impact Leadership Program for Health (HIL- PH) graduation ceremony was held today, 19 December 2025, at Jimma, Dololo Hotel.

The Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Amref Health Africa has provided a high-impact leadership training for 6 months in five regions.

The main purpose of the training was to empower leaders and build a strong health system.

Dr. Tesfaye Kibebewu, Vice Head of the Oromia Health Bureau, welcomed all the participants to Jimma and congratulated the trainees on their outstanding achievements.

In her opening speech, H.E. Mrs Seharala Abdullahi, State Minister of Health, encouraged graduates to take on their roles as change-makers, contributing to universal health coverage in Oromia and the country as a whole.

On his keynote address, Dr. Alemayehu Mekonnen said the graduation of high-impact leadership trainees from Oromia region as part of the Integrated Health Systems Strengthening (IHSS) Project focuses on improving healthcare accessibility and quality across Ethiopia, particularly in Oromia.

He acknowledged Amref Health Africa and the Ministry of Health for their unwavering support.

The certificate program for the graduates, instructors, and organisations that helped achieve the successful outcomes was observed during the event.

Established in 1989, EPHA has been promoting better public health services and upholding professional standards in Ethiopia for over 36 years. EPHA collaborates with both local and international partners to address Ethiopia’s top public health priorities.

Representatives from nine regional chapters presented their performance reports and annual plans for 2026 on 9 December 2026 at Ras Amba Hotel, Addis Ababa.

During the review meeting organized by EPHA, representatives from Amhara, Addis Ababa, Oromia, Diredawa, Tigray, Sidama, Gambella, Somalia and Harar regional chapters delivered an overview of their performance report.

They clearly highlighted their achievements over the past year, presented the challenges they encountered, and offered thoughtful recommendations all in a well-organized and engaging manner.

Following the presentations, participants held a productive discussion, exploring the issues raised and sharing additional perspectives.

The meeting served as an excellent platform for sharing experiences among the regional chapters and EPHA secretaries as well.
