To my Orthodox friends and family: As we passed the halfway mark of the Great Lent last Sunday, I wish you a continued period of strength and reflection. May this fasting season be a time of spiritual growth as we move toward the celebration of Easter. 🙏

To all my Irish Families, Friends, and everyone I’ve been lucky enough to meet along the way: ☘️🇪🇹🇮🇪

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh! ☘️

Today, my heart is in Ireland! As you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, I am sitting here in Addis Ababa reminiscing about the incredible warmth and "ceol agus craic" (music and fun) I experienced with you all.

From the long walks on the beaches with the dogs and the perfect Irish coffees, to the pints of Guinness in Dublin and that unforgettable visit to the Titanic site every moment is a cherished memory. I will never forget the kindness of those who opened their homes to me, looked after me like a brother, and even threw a party for more than 45 people just to celebrate me and the work of LIVE-ADDIS.

You didn't just host a tourist; you welcomed a family member.
Raising a glass to you all today from Ethiopia! 🥂 Sláinte!
መልካም የቅዱስ ፓትሪክ ቀን ይሁንላችሁ! (Melkam Ye-Kidus Patrick Ken Yihunilachu!)

Headline: A Season of Reflection, Solidarity, and Growth

It is good to be home. I have just returned to the office at LIVE-ADDIS following a productive mission to the WorldSkills South Africa 2026 conference in Durban. Engaging with AUDA-NEPAD leadership on the continental "Skills Revolution" has been an invaluable experience, and I am bringing back fresh insights on vocational excellence and artisan development that will directly shape our 2026 strategic roadmap for the youth of Ethiopia.

While global partnerships are vital, my true strength is drawn from the heart of our community. This past Saturday, I was blessed to spend time in my neighborhood, standing in solidarity with my Muslim brothers and sisters during this holy season of Ramadan, while I observe the Great Lent. Alongside my younger brother and dear friends, we shared moments of fellowship, respect, and mutual support. I have always believed that "friend-raising" is just as important as fundraising; true development begins with the strength of our social fabric. I am humbled to return to my desk today, grounded by the values of my neighborhood and inspired by the opportunities that lie ahead.

Wishing a blessed and peaceful fast to all my Muslim and Orthodox friends.

Headline: Reflections from WorldSkills 2026: A Vision for African Youth and a Moment of Recognition
Today was a day of profound inspiration here in Durban, South Africa, at the WorldSkills South Africa National Competition, Conference, and Career Festival.
Walking through the workshops and seeing young boys and girls fully immersed in their practical training—mastering crafts that will build their futures—brought me immense joy. It was a vivid reminder of why our work at LIVE-ADDIS is so vital.
A Special Honor from the South African Government Beyond the workshops, yesterday marked a significant professional milestone. In a dedicated session, the Director General and Deputy Director Generals of the South African Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) officially welcomed our international delegation. They formally conveyed a message of partnership and support from the South African Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training.

Standing alongside fellow delegates from Ethiopia, Cameroon, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya, I felt the power of a united Africa. This high-level recognition of our mission is a testament to the growing regional synergy in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The Road Ahead: Transforming Individuals into Productive Citizens From my discussions and visits, several key pillars stand out as the "way forward" for our ecosystem in Ethiopia:

• Absolute Systemic Change: We must shift the entire "Eco-System" through strategic alignment between Government, the Private Sector (Industry), and Civil Society.

• Repositioning TVET: Moving vocational colleges from a "second choice" to a primary engine of economic growth.

• Holistic Integration: To create a truly qualified workforce, we must integrate Business Development, Health, and Life Skills into technical training.

• Inclusivity & Gender: We must clearly define our support for all young people—including those currently in school and those who have dropped out—with a relentless focus on Gender Equity.

• Dignity in Labor: Ensuring strong Employer Commitment and fair Daily Wage Rates to sustain a productive workforce.

Seeing the busy hands of these young trainees and feeling the support of continental leadership makes me more than happy—it makes me certain that we are on the right track to transforming lives.

🌍 LIVE-ADDIS in Durban: A Journey of Skills & Strategic International Partnerships

Greetings from the WorldSkills South Africa National Competition and Conference! After a long journey from Addis through Johannesburg, I am officially on the ground in Durban.

The Highlights so far:
• A Grand Opening: The event was formally inaugurated last night at the Durban ICC. It was a privilege to hear from several high-ranking officials, culminating in an inspiring keynote by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training. Despite the travel fatigue, the energy was incredible!

• Day 1 & Action: Today kicked off the first official sessions. Beyond the technical discussions, I’ve been busy with "friend-raising"—meeting with officials and potential partners to share the LIVE-ADDIS organizational profile and fact sheet.

Special Appreciation to AUDA-NEPAD
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to AUDA-NEPAD (the African Union Development Agency). Their longstanding partnership with LIVE-ADDIS and their invitation to this prestigious occasion are invaluable. AUDA-NEPAD is truly serving the continent by creating these opportunities for knowledge exchange and growth. We are honored to walk this path together.

It is a privilege to represent our work here and explore how we can better serve our community through vocational excellence. More to come in the next few days!
