Last week, Africa CDC inducted 75 members into the Southern Africa regional pool of the Africa Volunteer Health Corps (AVoHC).

This expanded surge capacity strengthens the region’s ability to respond rapidly to cross-border health emergencies and support in-country deployments when needed. Building a ready, skilled workforce remains central to advancing Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty agenda.

Peer-to-peer virtual learning can scale expertise quickly, especially during health emergencies.

Africa CDC’s Eastern Africa RCC and the University of New Mexico’s Project ECHO explored how regional Communities of Practice and Technical Working Groups can use digital platforms like iECHO to enable rapid knowledge sharing and strengthen cross-border preparedness and outbreak response.

The 3rd Technical Advisory Committee meeting of the Africa CDC Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship convened partners in Nairobi to strengthen emergency workforce capacity across African Union Member States.

The meeting emphasized harmonized training standards, integration of One Health and climate-related risks, expanded use of simulation and digital learning, and sustained implementation at country level.

A prepared workforce is fundamental to effective prevention, preparedness, and response.
