Preparedness begins in communities.

In December 2025, Africa CDC, through the Risk Communication and Community Engagement pillar of the Joint Incident Management Support Team for Mpox and cholera, in partnership with the Ministry Of Health - Malawi, convened a five-day capacity-building workshop in Lilongwe.

Community health workers, district- and national-level media personnel, and other stakeholders from Malawi, Zambia, and Mozambique strengthened their capacity to develop and harmonize risk communication messages for measles, Mpox, and cholera, supporting coordinated cross-border preparedness and response.

This timely engagement supported Malawi’s preparedness efforts as the country declared a cholera outbreak later that month and reaffirmed Africa CDC’s commitment to continued support for African Union Member States.
