Washington Medical Center in Addis Ababa is a specialized secondary care health facility managed and staffed by Ethiopian, American and other visiting doctors who have committed to provide quality and affordable health care for residents of Addis Ababa. The center which is equipped with state of the art medical equipment is managed by Dr. Fassil Teffera who has moved to Ethiopia after more than 25 years of training and practice in United States. The medical center was inaugurated on January 17, 2015 in the presence of high ranking government officials, diplomats and the public. Inspired by sharing the knowledge and experience gained for decades by Ethio American doctors the center is founded with a vision to be expanded to a full blown tertiary care hospital in the years to come. The center is one of the very few paperless health facilities which takes registration, documentation and archive of patient records using electronic medical record. The center aims to provide affordable and high quality services for residents of Addis Ababa including the international community. Patients can book their visit online, by phone or in person to see the center’s specialist physicians. The center is primarily an internal medicine specialty clinic which provides a 24hours service using US trained and Ethiopian doctors. Subspecialty services of internal medicine such as neurology, nephrology, hematology, endocrinology, infectious diseases and travel medicine are among other disciplines for which the consultant physicians are available. The center will mobilize other doctors from USA and Europe for services that are not available or scarce in the city. The Medical Center named after the city of Washington in District of Columbia of USA which is home to the second largest population of Ethiopians in one metropolitan city next to Addis Ababa.
