Yesterday was complex Arthroplasty feast. The first one is a 21 year old electrical engineer who was suffering from Anklosing spondylitis with bilateral hip osteoarthritis and fixed flexion deformity , any physical mobility was difficult for him, having severe pain ,deformity and restricted hip joint motion .The 2nd was post traumatic Avascular necrosis of right hip joint with paprosky 3 type Acetabular defect. we did bilateral Total hip replacement for the first patient and Right Total hip replacement with structural graft for the acetabulum defect reconstruction and multi hole large cup and head replacement.There life will never be the same, hence they call it the surgery of the century[ total hip replacement]. You know some days are difficult here , it is not easy to be away from your family and your country but this are the kind of learnings that makes me think it is worth it.
I Aspire to give my people such advanced and life changing medical services up on my return. Special Thanks to my mentor Dr. Umair Nadeem.

This is a 25 year old male patient for whom we did multiple operation 2 and half year back at Hawassa University referral hospital.He was a military and sustain bullet injury to his left proximal leg during the devastating northern war. He presented with open comminuted proximal tibial fracture with bone loss and had associated fracture related infection as well. After infection control we gave him a definitive treatment with externalized locking plate with vascularized ipsilateral fibular graft and iliac crest graft , we were able to eradicate the infection and achieve Bony union with acceptable alignment. Achieving union in the presence of bone loss and infection is one of the most challenging task for any orthopedic Surgeon any where in the world. I encourage fellow orthopedic surgeons to try this technique in such kinds of challenging cases. Clinical picture and x_ray images at 2 month and 11month follow up is attched bellow.
