Advanced Training on Conflict Transformation and Mediation Skills

CYRO recently conducted an Training on Conflict Transformation and Mediation Skills as part of its commitment to building peaceful and resilient communities.

Digital Peacebuilding Initiative

Cyro successfully conducted a training program empowering 28 youth from the Somali Region with skills in digital storytelling, content creation, and media literacy. The goal was to equip participants to counter hate speech and promote peaceful narratives online.

The initiative fostered cross-clan collaboration and amplified youth voices for peace across the region.

CYRO Strengthens Youth Leadership for Peace!

From December 6–8, CYRO successfully held a transformative Core Youth Support and Training on YPS & Leadership program in Jigjiga.

Over 48 youth from the Somali Region and border woredas participated in intensive sessions on the UN Youth, Peace & Security (YPS) Agenda, leadership, and conflict sensitivity.

Through interactive workshops and the “Do No Harm" approach, participants explored the five YPS pillars and developed practical policy recommendations to advance youth inclusion in peace processes.

Standout youth were recognized for their strong leadership, teamwork, and commitment to peace—marking a meaningful step toward Youth-led peacebuilding in the region.

Role of Youth in the Somali Peace Agend
📍 Masaf Space, Jigjiga

CYRO successfully delivered an active and engaging youth session focusing on the Role of Youth in the Somali Peace Agenda. This sub-activity brought together youth from Awbare, Harshin, Jigjiga, members of Youth Peace Circles (YPC), and other youth leaders committed to peace and community resilience.

During the session, we created space for youth to:
✔️ Share real experiences from border woredas
✔️ Discuss conflict drivers affecting their communities
✔️ Explore their roles in prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding
✔️ Identify challenges such as unemployment, migration, exclusion, and security risks
✔️ Propose practical solutions to strengthen youth inclusion in the SRS Peace Architecture

Youth participants made strong and inspiring interventions, highlighting actionable recommendations to improve trust, strengthen local peace structures, and promote youth-led initiatives that support social cohesion.

This activity reaffirmed that youth are essential drivers of peace in the Somali Region, and their leadership is central to building a more inclusive and sustainable peace agenda.

CYRO remains committed to amplifying youth voices and ensuring meaningful participation in all peace processes across the region.

Voices of Healing – Project Conclusion Roundtable in Jigjiga

As part of the final phase of the _Voices of Healing_ project, CYRO hosted a half-day stakeholder roundtable in Jigjiga to reflect on key achievements and lessons learned.

This event marks the conclusion of a series of impactful activities, including:
* Community-Based Storytelling and Dialogue Sessions in Jigjiga and Goday.
* Documentation and Production of Advocacy Tools to amplify local voices.
* Stakeholder Engagement to promote inclusive peacebuilding and empowerment.

With support from CEHRO, this initiative has strengthened youth and women’s participation in shaping resilient, peaceful communities across border regions.

Together, we celebrate the voices, stories, and solutions that emerged and commit to sustaining the momentum for healing and change.

Mental Health & Psychiatric First Aid Training.

CYRO successfully completed a transformative two-day training aimed at equipping staff and local partners with essential skills to identify, respond to, and support individuals experiencing mental health and psychiatric challenges. This program enhances the reach and quality of _community-based psychological first aid_, ensuring that care is accessible, compassionate, and effective.

CYRO Participates in Discussion on the Reform of the Civil Society Joint Declaration

Analysis and Preparation of a New Magazine to be Published by the Somali Region Victims Network.

On 13–14 September 2025, we participated in a workshop focused on reviewing and developing a magazine initiated by Conciliation Resources (CR) and to be published by the Somali Region Victims Network. The magazine aims to spotlight the voices and experiences of victims in the Somali Region. During the workshop, we examined the content of the articles, editorial structure, and ways to amplify victim voices effectively.

Following the workshop, we visited Jail Ogaden to gather firsthand information on the conditions of detainees — a key step in ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the stories that will be published.
