Short Oat-Based Diet May Quickly Lower LDL Cholesterol
A recent study suggests that following a diet centered on oatmeal for just two days may lead to noticeable reductions in LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol levels, with effects that can last for several weeks.

To conduct the study, researchers enrolled adults with metabolic syndrome, a condition associated with higher cardiovascular risk. In one phase of the trial, 17 participants followed a low-calorie diet made up largely of oatmeal for 48 hours. A control group followed a similar calorie-restricted diet without oats. After the two-day intervention, all participants returned to their usual eating habits.

Early Treatment May Delay the Onset of Rheumatoid Arthritis by About Four Years
Recent research suggests that starting treatment before rheumatoid arthritis (RA) symptoms fully develop may delay the onset of clinical disease by roughly four years.

To conduct the study, researchers analysed health records from people considered at high risk for RA because they had blood markers associated with the condition but no joint symptoms. These individuals were treated early with medications typically used for RA, and their health outcomes were compared with those of people who did not receive early treatment.

Moving Just 5 More Minutes a Day Could Help You Live Longer
A new study indicates that even small increases in daily movement — as little as five minutes more physical activity — may be associated with a longer lifespan.
To conduct the study, researchers analysed data from a large group of adults who wore accelerometers on their wrists to objectively measure daily movement. They tracked the amount of time participants spent in light, moderate, and vigorous activity. Then they followed them over several years to determine how activity levels were related to mortality rates.

High Cholesterol in “Healthy” Women May Predict Future Heart Disease Risk
Recent research suggests that even women who appear healthy and free of cardiovascular disease may have an elevated risk of future heart problems if they have higher levels of certain cholesterol markers in midlife.
To conduct the study, researchers analysed data from the Framingham Heart Study, tracking more than 1,600 women over a period of up to 25 years. At the start of the study, participants were free of cardiovascular disease. They underwent detailed blood tests to measure not only traditional cholesterol levels but also specific lipoprotein subfractions — particles that carry cholesterol through the bloodstream.

Diet vs. Supplements: Which Form of Vitamin B12 Is Better?
Vitamin B12 is essential for nerve health, red blood cell production, and DNA synthesis, but the body must obtain it from food or supplements. Common dietary sources include meat, fish, dairy, and fortified foods.
Research indicates that most individuals who consume animal products obtain sufficient B12 from their diet alone. However, older adults, people with digestive conditions, and those following vegetarian or vegan diets are more likely to develop deficiencies and may benefit from supplements or fortified foods.

Ten Minutes of Intense Exercise May Help Treat and Prevent Colorectal Cancer
Recent research indicates that short bursts of high-intensity exercise — even as little as ten minutes a day — may play a role in preventing and treating colorectal cancer.
To explore this possibility, researchers examined data from laboratory studies and clinical research involving human participants. The studies examined how vigorous physical activity affects biological processes known to influence cancer development, including inflammation, insulin sensitivity, immune function, and tumor cell behavior.
