Bittium and KNL collaborate to deliver seamless hybrid communications for defense 🫱🏻‍🫲🏻

The joint communications solution combines Bittium’s reliable Line-of-Sight and Non-Line-of-Sight communications solutions with KNL’s long-range, Beyond-Line-of-Sight cognitive HF radios.

The cooperation brings a new long-range dimension to Bittium’s tactical networks, enabling seamless hybrid communications across multi-domain operations. Thanks to IP-level integration, networks can be expanded flexibly across wide geographical areas, improving command and control and strengthening interoperability between nations.

The goal is a comprehensive network in which every connection, whether HF, satellite, or commercial 5G, functions seamlessly as part of the same IP-based architecture.

🚀 5G COMPAD 2.0 has been launched and Bittium is part of the project consortium

2.0 (5G Communications for Peacekeeping and Defence 2.0) is a project funded under the European Commission (European Defence Fund - EDF) 2024 call on information superiority.

➡️ Over the next three years, the project will develop the next generation of secure, resilient and interoperable defence communication standards for European armed forces.

⚙️ Building on the success of the previous 5G COMPAD project, this new phase moves from research to deployable, field-ready capabilities for coalition operations across land, sea, air and space.

🔎Key innovations include networks-as-a-sensor, precise positioning, automatic network setup, non-terrestrial networks, and dynamic spectrum sharing, strengthening connectivity and cyber resilience in complex operational environments.

5GCOMPAD 2.0 also plays a strategic role in enhancing European interoperability, technological sovereignty and security of supply, ensuring trusted, European-controlled mission-critical communications.

The consortium brings together 18 partners from 11 European countries, combining leading defence companies, telecom actors and research organisations to shape the future of multi-domain communications.
