New Zealand Woman Finds Healing and Hope at PSH Hospitals

68-year-old Minachi Mani travelled from New Zealand to Fiji for a routine medical check but what doctors discovered at PSH Hospitals changed her life. After a successful mediastinal mass excision, she calls her experience “pain-free, comforting, and world-class.”
When Minachi Mani, a 68-year-old from New Zealand, arrived in Fiji for medical reasons before travelling abroad, she never imagined that the visit would uncover a hidden health issue. What began as a simple check-up turned into a journey of discovery and healing one that left her filled with gratitude and admiration for the standard of care in Fiji.
“I came to Fiji for medical reasons before travelling. A hospital in Lautoka did some tests but couldn’t find anything. Later, I was recommended to PSH Hospitals and that’s where they found out about the tumor,’’ Minachi recalled.
Doctors at PSH Hospitals diagnosed her with a mediastinal mass. Is an abnormal growth located in the mediastinum, which is the central compartment of the thoracic cavity (the area between the lungs). The mediastinum contains vital structures such as the heart, great vessels, trachea, esophagus, thymus, lymph nodes, and nerves.
What was most surprising was that Minachi had no pain or symptoms before the diagnosis.
“The doctors here are really good. I felt no pain, and I was looked after really well,” she said. “In every step, I was cared for. The nurses were so helpful they treated me like family.”
Under the skilled hands of Dr Sanjeev Khulbey, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon at PSH Hospitals, Minachi underwent a successful mediastinal mass excision.
She said the experience was comforting from start to finish.
“I am so thankful to Dr Sanjeev. He is a legend,” she said with a smile. “The way he explained everything before the surgery made me confident and calm. It was so rewarding because I felt no fear, no pain
Dr Khulbey said Minachi’s case highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and specialized care available locally.
“At PSH Hospitals, we ensure every patient receives the best possible care with compassion and expertise. Our focus is not just on complex surgeries but on making sure our patients feel informed, safe, and cared for at every stage of their treatment,’’ said Dr Khulbey.
For Minachi, the experience opened her eyes to the high level of medical service available in Fiji.
“We don’t need to travel overseas when it’s offered here,” she said. “The cost of surgery was very reasonable, especially considering the care before and after my surgery. This hospital feels like I’m overseas.’’
Founder and chief executive officer of PSH Hospitals Parvish Kumar, said stories like Minachi’s inspire the team to continue delivering world-class healthcare to the Pacific region.
“Our mission at PSH Hospitals is to provide international-standard medical care close to home,” said Kumar. “Every success story like Mani’s proves that Fiji has the talent, technology, and heart to match the best hospitals in the world.”
“PSH Hospitals is truly a blessing,” she said. “They gave me confidence, comfort, and care beyond expectations.”
Minachi Mani’s story stands as a testament to the growth of healthcare in the Pacific. With advanced technology, experienced specialists, and compassionate service, PSH Hospitals continues to lead the way as the best in the Pacific for world-class cardiac and surgical care. Also, PSH Hospitals now also provides emergency cardiac services at its Nadi branch for patients suspecting a cardiac event and its available 24/7.

Suva Man Recovers from Heart Blockages at PSH Hospitals

After enduring months of pain, fear, and waiting, 58-year-old Harish Chand from Suva finally found relief and a new lease on life at PSH Hospitals in Nadi without having to travel overseas for his life-saving heart surgery.
“I didn’t know what was happening. At first, I thought it was just stress. But then I felt this unbearable pain in my chest. It was something I had never experienced before,’’ Harish recalled.
He was taken to a Hospital in Tavua, where doctors discovered that he had suffered a minor heart attack. From there, he was referred to a hospital in Suva for an angiogram, which revealed multiple heart blockages.
“One of the doctors told me to go to Lautoka for further tests. I was put on a waiting list for nearly four months. The pain got worse, and I couldn’t eat, talk, or even go to the washroom properly. Then the doctor who was supposed to perform the surgery went overseas, I just kept waiting in pain,’’ he said.
That’s when hope came in an unexpected form through a Facebook post.
“My daughter saw a post from PSH Hospitals about their cardiac care services. She told me to give it a try. When we contacted PSH Hospital in Nadi, they responded quickly and told us to come in for consultation,’’ said Harish.
At PSH Hospitals, Harish met Dr Sanjeev Khulbey, a renowned Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon, who assessed his condition and confirmed that it was a high-risk case. Despite the risks, Dr Sanjeev assured the family that PSH Hospitals had the expertise and technology to handle it.
The surgery was performed successfully at PSH Hospitals, marking a major milestone in Harish’s life.
“The services here are excellent. I didn’t feel any pain. I didn’t even realize when I was taken to the theatre. When I woke up, I saw my family beside me, I felt like I got my life back,’’ he said with a smile.
His wife, Gyan, shared her relief through tears.
“I was terrified when he went in for the operation. But when the doctors said everything went well, I couldn’t stop thanking God and the PSH Hospitals medical team. They gave my husband a second life’’.
Now, Harish is back on his feet walking, eating, and living pain-free. “Before, I couldn’t even speak properly. Now, I can walk on my own. I feel healthy again. Dr Sanjeev is like my god he saved my life,’’ he said.
“I couldn’t have travelled to India for this surgery. I was too weak and in too much pain. I didn’t know if I’d survive the trip. But thanks to PSH Hospitals, I got world-class treatment right here in Fiji. I’m forever grateful,’’ Harish added emotionally,
Founder and chief executive officer of PSH Hospitals Parvish Kumar says, our mission is to make world-class healthcare available for every Fijian, without the need to travel overseas,” he said.
“Stories like Chand’s inspire us to continue providing quality cardiac care with compassion and excellence. PSH Hospitals will continue to lead as the best healthcare provider in the Pacific,’’ said Kumar proudly.
Dr Sanjeev Khulbey, who led the surgical team at PSH Hospitals, said timely intervention saved Harish’s life.
“It was a high-risk surgery due to his multiple blockages and weakened heart, but with the right technology and teamwork, we succeeded,” he said. “PSH Hospitals advanced cardiac facilities ensure that patients receive the same level of care they would get abroad right here at home.”
Today, Harish Chand’s recovery is more than just a success story, it’s proof of how far healthcare in Fiji has come. Thanks to PSH Hospitals’ world-class cardiac care, skilled doctors, and compassionate team, patients no longer have to endure long waits or costly trips overseas.
PSH Hospitals now also provides emergency cardiac services at its Nadi branch for patients suspecting a cardiac event.
PSH Hospitals continues to set the benchmark for excellence, standing proudly as the Pacific’s leading private healthcare provider, giving every patient a chance not only to survive but to live again.

Save Life, Save Planet: PSH Hospitals Calls for a Greener Future by Promoting Intra-Pacific Medical Referrals

PSH Hospitals Founder and Chief Executive Officer Parvish Kumar has called on Pacific leaders to reduce the region’s carbon footprint by keeping more medical treatments within the Pacific instead of sending patients abroad.
Mr Kumar made the comments during the World Health Organization’s Special Event of the Pacific Health Ministers on the Healthy Islands Vision held at Shangri-La Yanuca Island Resort on October 25, 2025.
Mr Kumar said many Pacific patients travel long distances to countries like India, Thailand, and Singapore for treatment.
“These flights produce a huge amount of carbon. All of these surgeries can be done safely in Australia, New Zealand, or Fiji. It is closer, cheaper, and cleaner,’’ he said.
He introduced PSH Hospitals new program called “Save Life, Save Planet.” The aim is to connect healthcare and environmental care.
“When we treat a patient, we must also think about the planet. Saving lives and saving the planet should go together,” he said.
Mr Kumar shared data using the United Kingdom’s Greenhouse Gas formula. His study showed that one round trip from Fiji to India for a patient and an es**rt produces about 7,800 kilograms of carbon dioxide, more than seven tonnes for one surgery.
“If that same surgery is done in Fiji, the planet is spared that entire seven tonnes. The logic is simple — treat patients closer to home and help the earth at the same time,’’ he said.
He added that most Pacific patients travel through Nadi before flying overseas, which increases emissions.
“When thousands of patients do this every year, the total carbon footprint becomes very large,” he said.
Mr Kumar said the Save Life, Save Planet idea supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3 and SDG 13) and the WHO Healthy Islands Vision.
“SDG 3 is about good health and SDG 13 is about climate action. At PSH Hospitals, we are helping both. We are saving lives and protecting Mother Earth at the same time,’’ he said proudly.
PSH Hospitals has already carried out many advanced treatments in Fiji.
“We have successfully done open-heart surgeries for patients from Fiji and other Pacific Islands. We even treated one patient from New Zealand and two from Germany right here in Fiji,’’ he said.
Mr Kumar said the results were excellent and the costs were much lower than overseas.
“We also perform neuro and orthopaedic surgeries with 100 percent success. From November, we will offer even more advanced procedures,’’ he said.
He explained that while some overseas treatments may seem cheaper, the hidden costs are high.
“If treatment here costs a little more, it is still worth it,” he said. “If we don’t pay that price now, our children will pay later with a damaged planet.”
Mr Kumar said PSH Hospitals prices are fair and often match those of Indian hospitals. The medicines used meet TGA, BP, and FDA standards, and surgeries are done by experienced doctors.
He said PSH Hospitals will continue to work with governments and health ministries to build stronger medical capacity in the Pacific.
“This is not only about healthcare,” he said. “It is about changing how we care for our people and for our planet.”
