One of the biggest game changers for me? Knowing my limiting beliefs, AKA my assumptions, underlying stories, unfounded fears, all of it.

Discovering that I was unintentionally sabotaging my own efforts because of ingrained mental patterns allowed me to change the way I thought, and that changed the way I behaved. And that, finally, changed my outcomes.

My biggest limiting belief was that I was incapable. As a result, I:

- gave up easily
- didn’t put in the effort required to achieve certain things
- avoided what I genuinely wanted to pursue

What I didn’t realise was that I had plenty of evidence to the contrary. I was very capable. But when you hold a deep-seated belief about yourself, you don’t go looking for proof that challenges it. That’s confirmation bias doing its thing.

And limiting beliefs don’t usually take over every corner of your life. In many ways, I felt incredibly capable: creative projects, travel, anything that required independence. But the belief was still there, quietly steering my decision-making when I wasn’t paying attention.

And here’s the thing: everyone has one. Yours may not look like mine, but you almost certainly have a belief humming in the background, quietly undermining your efforts. It might sound like:

- I’m powerless
- I can’t trust myself, others, or the world
- I must be perfect
- I’m not enough
- I’m unlovable
- I’m unworthy

There are countless variations.

Something that really surprised me, though, was understanding that a limiting belief isn’t entirely bad; it’s usually the flip side of one of your greatest strengths.

People who believe they’re incapable often become incredibly resourceful.

People who feel unlovable often grow into empathetic, service-led humans.

People who chase perfection often become the most dependable, detail-focused in the room.

So the first stage of changing your life without actually changing your life is recognising your own personal brand of dysfunction. Because once you can see it, you can catch it in action, shift your focus, and even uncover strengths you didn’t realise you had.

I arrived in Paris thinking it would feel like home. I was wrong.

In 2014, I boarded the Eurostar with a giant suitcase, a huge grin, and a one-way ticket to a new life in Paris. I had just accepted a job offer, and I felt the possibilities buzzing through me.

Those early days were filled with the thrill of novelty. Every weekend, I woke up excited to explore the city and its culture. But the magic didn’t last forever.

A short while later, my company, which wasn’t used to hiring foreigners, pushed me to “hurry up and learn French,” despite hiring me for my English.

I tried to make friends but never found anyone I truly connected with. Things were tough.

The reality is that I had expected moving abroad to be easy, but it wasn’t. When you don’t have any support network and you don’t speak the local language, eagerness to learn and ‘put yourself out there’ is simply not enough for a smooth ride.

After a raging argument with my manager one day, I left my job and moved to Montpellier.

Here’s what I learnt in those early days:

If you don’t speak French and don’t know anyone, work somewhere international. When I returned to Paris a year later and joined a globally minded company, the difference was dramatic. If you’re not working, find international spaces through volunteering or social activities. Human beings need to belong, at least some of the time.

Friendships take time. Real connection grows through consistency and proximity. Not every friendship will meet every need; as Aristotle said, some are for utility, some for pleasure, some for virtue. Sometimes the deeper ones grow from the lighter ones, so long as you keep showing up. (I listened to a super interesting podcast on this by Mark Manson; here's a link.)

Make language learning fun. Most of my anxiety around French came from pressure, my own and others’. Years later, learning Spanish in South America felt effortless because there was zero pressure, only enjoyment in talking to locals.

Basically, don’t put pressure on yourself to learn French, integrate, and magically recreate your life in an instant.

Because if you’ve ever felt lost abroad, you’re not alone. But you do need to do things differently.

Not all failures are equal.

Last month, alongside the formidable Amy Dutton, I facilitated a workshop for the Executive Management Network on cultural perspectives of success and failure across France, the UK, and the USA.

✨ One theme emerged clearly: failure can be experienced very differently depending on the lens we use. But in every context, there’s a crucial distinction; the difference between failing with our values versus failing against them.

When the struggle is meaningful, when the work reflects what we care about most, the setbacks along the way don’t feel wasted. They become part of the story, part of the progress.

To fail better, we first need to get clear on our values. They are the compass that makes even our missteps purposeful, and the reason failure, at times, can be the most powerful teacher of all.

Thanks to Naïs LLERA, Alex Bongiorno, Cédric Pelletier, Julie Champourcin, Olivia Fallet-Tournayre, who spoke English beautifully and made the workshop a success !👏

I am proud to announce that Eric Maisel, a leading Creativity Coach, has featured me in a book, ‘The Coaches Guide to Completing Creative Work.’

The great thing about my chapter in this book, 'Mind Yourself', is that the advice and tips given to succeed are as relevant to an everyday person pursuing general life projects as they are an artist pursuing a creative project. This means that anyone looking to progress in their life no matter the vision can benefit from reading this book.

Here’s a quick sample:

Creative Structure.

This refers to how you create everything that exists in your life, from the illustrious career (or not) to the birth of an artistic project or your reaction to any given situation. You are constantly creating even if you are unaware of it. Though much creation is done passively, there are oftentimes when you make an effort to bring something to life. This is, however, when Mind usually gets involved, forever fervent in its mission to protect you at the expense of your creations. And this happens by way of one of the following three exits out of the creative structure: comparison, abandonment, and impatience.

Focus creates reality. Repeatedly visualising a desired outcome improves your chances of making that outcome your reality.

Visualisation is just one of many NLP techniques used for success in any endeavour. And one often used by professional athletes or actors who work with Hypnotherapists and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) practitioners to help train their minds to be the most effective at whatever they do, to create the reality they desire.

Mike Tyson was famous for having an NLP-trained coach to ensure that he always beat his opponents. Oprah Winfrey, Cheryl Cole and Russell Brand have also used these techniques.

Visualising sends messages directly to your subconscious telling it exactly what it is that you want to create so it can get busy making it happen for you. Since your subconscious is responsible for 97% of all your decision-making, it’s a good idea for your subconscious to know exactly what it is that you want.

Regularly listening to a personalised recording is one way to do this. Not only that, but it also provides a moment to relax your nervous system, calm your inner voice, and put your focus on something positive.

For your own personalised recording, please send me a message to organise a quick chat or fill out a form. You may have a problem you wish to resolve or be preparing for an event in the future. The more detail you provide the more specific to your circumstance the recording and the more effective the results will be.

Always happy to answer questions should you have any.

Have a Calm Christmas.

For some, Christmas is a joyous occasion. These people have presents to buy, preparations to make and many things to consider, yet, these tasks arrive with a sense of excitement, anticipation and longing for the big day to arrive. For so many others, however, it’s a different story, one riddled with stress and anxiety.

What’s the difference between these two types of people? Simple. The difference is the feelings they associate with the Christmas period and their consistent focus on them.

You may think that person 1 has more luck than person 2. They may have a loving family which whom to share the festivities, and the financial means with which to celebrate; present giving, buying party supplies and decorations. But this is not necessarily the case. There are many people who appear lucky outwardly but suffer terribly with stress and anxiety. Conversely, there are people who have little means and few family members, yet look forward to Christmas year in and year out.

What can be done for person 2 in this instance? Again, simple. Change your perceptions of past experiences, and focus your attention to create the good instead of the bad. I said simple, not easy.

But it is much easier to do this with the right support, and the right tools to hand. It’s simply a question of knowing the foundations and applying them when they most matter.

At the beginning of December, I’ll be giving 2-hour online weekly sessions to help those who experience stress and anxiety leading up to Christmas to reduce these unwanted feelings. The sessions aim to change participants’ expectations to prepare for the best experience they can have.

These 3 group sessions will comprise 4 participants maximum and will provide NLP (perception changing) techniques and hypnotherapy to address any unmet needs. Between the sessions, participants will also receive a personalised group recording that reprograms their minds to create healthier, more beneficial thoughts and behaviours.

For you, person 2, once you join your group you will receive 6 hours of personalised advice, therapeutic techniques and support, plus a recording for those days in between sessions, for the mere cost of £99.
