Tanya Smith (Kamala Devi) Yoga Siromani, Teacher of Yoga

I live in the Dordogne, France, with my husband Tim and 3 children. We moved here from the UK in 2006 where I was a practicing yogini. Ten years on, I am a qualified yoga teacher with over 4 years teaching experience. My journey to become a teacher began when my yoga teacher of several years returned to the UK and I could not find anyone to fill her place. At this time I was asked by a friend if I would share my practice with her and a couple of others. This soon became a regular class which I gave freely but it soon became clear to me that I would need formal training if I wanted to continue with them. Spurred on by the enjoyment and sense of fulfilment that these classes gave me, I embarked on a teacher training course. After one of the most gruelling months of my life, I qualified from the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre at Neuville-aux-Bois, in France, in June 2013. It has allowed me to introduce young people to yoga at local primary schools and also to teach yoga at home to students of all levels – from those who are starting yoga for the first time up to experienced practitioners. I also provide a gentle restorative class once a week and, weather permitting I offer yoga at local gite complexes, on request, during the summer months. I was introduced to yoga as a teenager. However it was not until I had a family and the pressures that accompany family life that I realised the true benefits of yoga! My aim now is to introduce others to the benefits that yoga can bring. We all live full but often stressful lives. Through yoga, we can learn to relax and find not only our natural balance, but an inner calm as well. This can be achieved through the adoption of Asana (exercise), Pranayama (breathing), relaxation, diet, positive thinking and meditation. In my lessons I teach Hatha yoga. This path teaches ways of controlling the body and mind, including silent meditation. Classes cover yogic postures, breathing and relaxation techniques and a brief meditation. As a result, I hope that you will experience this ancient way of bringing balance into your life. Peace of mind is happiness. Yoga shows us the way. (Swami Vishnudevananda)

Day 8 of my advent and this one had to be included. Because it’s the basis for so much, if not absolutely everything.

Love to you all. May this week contain more magic than mayhem, more hope than despair and more joy than sadness.

Day 7 of my advent.

A message so important to me I’m always finding ways to pass it on.

Say it. Always say it…you’ll never regret spreading joy and positivity. But may regret not doing it.

Sow seeds wherever you go, cast your love and watch it grow 🌱🌿

Day 6 of my advent and a reminder that happiness is not a state of being but a gift that visits as and when.

And all you have to do to be worthy of that gift, is to see it, and feel it.
And let it go again safe in the knowing it will return.

Today, allow yourself the chance to feel that joy, that happiness when she visits. It is not grand, this gift. It glimmers in the simple things. Be vigilant.

(I would also love to let you know that my latest book is half price now on amazon uk for a few days and the same in Asda stores.)

Much love,

Donna

Day 5 my advent and I’m speaking to those of us who feel out of sorts right now and can’t put their finger on why.

We are so very many more versions of ourselves than we realise. We change continuously. Always for the better, no matter how it looks in passing.

And we will become so many more versions of ourselves too, between now and the day we leave this mortal coil.

It’s one life we get but we get to live that one life from a different respective each time we evolve.

What a wonderful thing.

If you’re in the cocoon right now don’t be alarmed or downhearted. It’s an exciting time. You’re about to become a new version of yourself and wow, what will she do?

Day 4 of my advent.

It’s grief awareness week and there is always so much to say but this what I was getting through for today. I hope it’s meant for you. And I hope it lands with the love it was delivered. And if it is not for you, do keep reading, there will be something on this page that you need, soon.

Today, can you bring through a memory or tradition that they loved. Can you say their name and let them fill the room around you with their love? And if you cannot, that’s okay. They will meet you where you are and so will we all.

Gently does it. Grief is an unknown entity we are not taught how to survive through. But we will. Together.

Day 3 of my advent of words you need…

There is much pressure to shine this season but the truth is you are majestic in whichever phase you sit. And we must embrace one another in all seasons of life and love.

Some of us are suns projecting light out and some are moons, and so the tables turn, day in and day out. That’s truly quite wonderful. We need one another and we are never alone.

Advent of Words to live by… ✨

Every day in December I will be posting an advent-calendar-style message you need to hear.

I love a good advent calendar and these days we have chocolate advent calendars, cosmetics coffee, you name it.

I will be bringing you little parcels of comfort, hope, or just a perspective shift to move you out of overwhelmed and back into calm and peaceful.
Or at the very least, grateful: Because the state of gratitude is a powerful thing.

I will also be suggesting a journalling prompt you can carry out to help yourself or a small act of kindness to add to the ripple effect that keeps the whole world facing the light.

(This may seem like a task (and you have more than enough of those) but this will return the energy to you ten-fold in power 🤩.)

It is not easy, this life, even when it is wonderful. We need one another. And we need reminders of the fact that we are not alone, never, ever alone.

This community is a kind one.

What a thing.

Today… give yourself a treat of some kind - be that space from guilt and criticism in your thoughts or an hour of you-time doing whatever fuels your soul.

You are worthy.

(All of the words on my advent windows will be from ‘Joy Chose You’ or my journal ‘Words To Live By’)

Day 2 of my Wordy Advent.

And a gentle but firm reminder that if you are trying to achieve perfection this month, you are on an uphill journey to nowhere great.

It is the imperfections, the flaws, and the messiness that create most beautifully lived lives. I see it all the time.

The love lives in the things forgotten because the conversation was just too good. The joy sneaks in when you take a beat from your militant routine to just notice what’s going on around you.

So, for your task today, can you do something imperfectly? Leave something unfinished? Decide not to break your back over a very simple task and instead do it with love and presence and see what happens.

Jot it down, say it out loud, stitch it to the fabric of the universe with intent, and perhaps make a little pact with yourself that you are going to focus more on what’s important this month and less on trying to make everything perfect for an invisible judge and jury.

It’s your life. You’re here to live it. Not show it like a house that’s ready to be sold. Mess some things up and sit with the discomfort. Then laugh it off and put your feet up, my love. That’s the version of you we want to see living their best life.
