The war in Gaza has been described as a humanitarian catastrophe.

In this podcast, we talk to Mr Ed Brown, a consultant vascular surgeon from the UK, who has recently returned from Gaza and describes his experiences working in a warzone.

What does it take to work in such an environment?

What are the challenges facing surgeons and other health professionals in Gaza?

Ever thought of humanitarian work yourself?

These are the questions we hope to answer.

In the past 30 days alone, over 50 new patients have been recruited into the European Venous Registry 🤯 That’s our best streak yet and a sign that teamwork across Europe is stronger than a well-deployed iliac stent.

Let’s keep the vein of success open and see how far we can push the next milestone!

🌟 ESVS Mentorship Programme – Success Story 🌟

Some mentorship stories evolve far beyond professional guidance — they grow into friendship, trust, and shared experiences.

Leszek and Vlado met through the ESVS–EVST Mentorship Programme, and it truly was a perfect match from the very beginning.

“From our first online meeting, I felt comfortable asking questions, inspired to take steps forward, and encouraged to explore new ways to grow. Things moved quickly — soon I was on my way to an Aortic Fellowship in Bern. What an adventure and a steep learning curve it has been!”
— Leszek

“Although we mentor every day in our hospitals, having a structured framework and dedicated time with a junior colleague makes a real difference. Leszek has developed enormously as a surgeon. Apart from experiences at the operating table, we also developed some innovative research projects together. Along the way, we even managed to sail together and meet each other’s families — and just like that, mentorship turned into friendship.”
— Vlado

We couldn’t be prouder of this pair — a wonderful example of what true mentorship can achieve! 💙
