L/SGT Henry ‘Pops’ Elliott, a 40yo in 1916 when he joined the 36th Battalion AIF, known as Carmichaels 1000. Suffered severe trench foot in the terrible 1916/17 winter and never recovered, eventually discharged by 1918. Died of his injuries by 1922. Tided by veterans.

Maj James Thomas from Tenterfield NSW made fame as the lawyer of Breaker Morant, but he was so much more. Comd of A Sqn NSW Bushmen, local solicitor and owner of the Tenterfield Star newspaper. He served in the Boer War at battles of Mafeking, Bloemfontein and the famous battle at Elands River. He was MID 3 times. He toiled for veterans rights after the war, losing everything in the process. If you’ve never seen the Breaker Morant Movie do yourself a favour. Two RAAF pilots and mates PO Reg Davis and PO Keith Willett, in 1944 flew Sterling heavy bombers over Europe, delivering paratroopers and gliders on D-day then to Arnhem, they and 7 crew of Canadians and Brits, were shot down on the way to deliver a critical stores drop at Arnhem. Aussie mates forever lay side by side in Oosterbeek Holland. They sacrificed everything to help the cut off paratroopers. Tended to by Project Norden Veterans. The Rats of Tobruk 1941, a classic story of Aussies and their British, Indian, Polish and Czechoslovak mates being under equipped outnumbered and cut off for 8 months. Where two of the greatest WW2 commanders Rommel and Morshead went head to head. Good old Aussie cunning and determination changed history in this battle. The monument is in Tweed Heads and is a replica of the original in the port of Tobruk. Restored here by Aussie Veterans from Project Norden. Lest we forget the 830 diggers and 178 Aussie Navy the gave their lives 🌺

To celebrate this great nation of Australia, Project Norden headed to Tenterfield for two days, a town with a rich military history spanning all conflicts. The Tenterfield Mounted Rifles were a large contributor to the Boer war with three of Tenterfield’s own lost there. Over the two days we were privileged to tidy over 50 legends from Boer war to WW2 and beyond. Graves included Maj Thomas, the famous solicitor of Troopers Morant and Hancock that were the last Aussies to be executed by British command. Now 50 outstanding Australians have a flag and poppy for Australia Day. If you haven’t been to Tenterfield swing by, it’s a great little Aussie town. DUST WARNING** I got some bloody Uruzghan dust in my eyes putting this one together. PTE Matty Lambo Lambert of the 2nd Bn the Royal Australian Regiment. Highly skilled at sniping, soldiering and larrikinism, A veteran of East Timor and Afghanistan. Killed in action in Khas Uruzghan region on 22 Aug 2011. Tended to by Project Norden Veterans. Capt Percy Cherry VC MC, a young Tassie apple growing legend and 26th Bn AIF veteran of Gallipoli, Bois Grenier, Poziers, Warlencourt and Lagnicourt. Nicknamed the “Little Martinet” he was a hard charging Anzac that could have been given several VC’s. Eventually killed in action, buried here in Queant Cemetery France. Constable Allan McQueen SC VA, from Kyogle NSW, joined NSW Police and two years into the job in 1987, was killed after a gun battle with a car thief in Woolloomooloo. Air Commodore Archie Wilson ICD OBE DFC, an 18yo from Southern Rhodesia in 1939 signed up as a pilot. Posted to 238 Sqn RAF he flew Hurricanes and Spitfires for two full tours with missions over El Alamein, Western Desert and supported invasions over Malta, Italy and Southern France. After an illustrious career of service he Immigrated to Australia. Tidied by veterans from Project Norden. Lest we forget 🌺 .

Wrap up of the tshirt giveaway for Remembrance Day, outstanding work by a bunch of great Australians near a far, the total graves attended was 133, including Anzacs from as early as the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 to as recent as Afghanistan, from Adelaide all the way to Thailand. Tshirts are now on the way to those legends that got stuck in. Why not head to your local cemeteries and see what legends lie near you and tag us in!!!

One of Project Norden’s mates in ACT attended Gungahlin Cemetery for Remembrance Day and placed poppies on these two legends. I am intrigued with the tragedy of Raafie John Cullen being aged just 20 in 1986, if anyone knows his story please let me know. Have a scroll and check these two legends out.
